"A GPU is like a car"......no it's not, a Honda Civic doesn't double in price in a single year and keep going up.

"Titan is a boutique card"....no it's not, it's the same crap underneath with a different name.

I hope Vega delivers. Hopefully we see a full 102 with no Titan pricing.

I ended up holding off picking up a Titan X. Main reason is the game I play 90% of the time is BF4 and in a few month's my next obsession will be BF1. I admit SLI isn't for everyone and it does seem that more and more AAA games aren't supporting it. Even some of the games that do support it don't utilize it fully with poor scaling on the 2nd gpu. Others scale well but don't handle overclocks that well. GtaV is one of them. BF4 thrives off SLI and can handle high overclocks without a single artifact or crash. I can run my gpu's at 1500mhz with constant 98-99% usage for hours without a single crash or hiccup. BF4 maxed out with 200% scale holding 75+fps on the X34 is something you must experience for yourself. Bottom line with this type of scaling and usage the Titan X even overclocked will fall 15-20% short of this type of performance. That's just not acceptable for me personally. Good news is I'm almost 95% sure a 1080Ti is coming. I'm looking forward to buying another pair of Lightnings. thumb.gif

I like the comparison to fine food products, especially wine. Fine wine is pretty much the same stuff as any other wine but can cost 100x the price and can only be consumed once. An 800 dollar bottle of wine is not 100x better than a decent eight dollar bottle, it is better sure, but even aficionados would not say 100 times better. However if you want that wine you have to pay $800 because someone else is willing to pay that.

Wine does keep longer though so just buying it isn't like buying a Titan, but buying a Titan X is a better value than actually opening an $800 bottle of wine.

We can bemoan GPUs becoming mainstream such that prices are affected by this kind of market, but you cannot convince people to not pay the high prices with any kind of "value" arguments.

I'm not an uber enthusiast super cool TX Pascal owner, but I personally use the AB beta without RivaTuner for my 1080... Mostly because I don't need to login before downloading it and then fill out an equally annoying survey to run the damn app, like EVGA Precision.

I like RivaTuner included because I really like it's FPS limiter in how easy it is to use and how well it controls the games FPS cap. Works great for capping frames to either the refresh rate or 2x the refresh rate.
Though, now that we have fastsync I have been testing raising the fps cap above monitor refresh by 15-20 fps to get lower input latency but also not have any tears and it does work pretty well. its my new favorite combo.

Yeah, definitely better to limit your FPS vs vsync. I did the same thing for FC3 when it came out. I'm not really playing anything at the moment that'll outdo my monitor's refresh rate @ 1440p, so I don't bother limiting it. Though, I'd be using RivaTuner for that if I needed to. I just couldn't seem to get rid of its update message every time I restarted Windows... so now I just don't bother installing it anymore.

(That cannot connect to server message kept popping up for me, despite having updates turned off. Grrrrrr...).

I actually forgot about that till you mentioned it. I too went through that with every boot for 1-2 months. Seems to have resolved itself on its own, I assumed it was a server issue on their end.

Can someone please bench FP16 vs FP32 in Sandra? NVidia claims Titan X is for deep learning but if it doesnt do FP16 faster than the 1080 then it offers nothing more for deep learning than the consumer cards, and in fact is worse per dollar because you can just by more 1080s for your dollar.

Noone in the world that I can see has even tried this. Which makes it a world first if you can confirm/deny.

It's quite false of Nvidia to claim Titan X is for deep learning if it offers nothing more besides more cores (which is good, but cmon its nothing new).
