No need. I like to have room for an upgrade Il go with the 750w. Done. Im going to go buy it and install it quickly and report back.

Yeah, I guess that was a wise choice because it's not like having an overkill PSU will hurt your computer. lol If anything, this 750W PSU will produce less heat than the 550W version which means it won't put as much heat into your case which also means it won't put as much heat into your room.

 

After putting this PSU you in, you will be fully ready to overclock as much as you want without any problems. The only way this PSU would be a problem is if it were defective. That's how good it is.

I just tested my system, and the absolute highest power consumption I could get while gaming was about 360-370W - and it was difficult to do so. Most of the time, my power consumption was at around 290-315W.

Everything installed and ready.
Good info on power consumption I always tought that all components put together draw more wattage.
I may upgrade to 980 sli in future so Im glad I bought 750w. Its going to serv me for many years to come smile.gif

You're not the only one who guesses too high on power consumption. It's been so long that I tested my power consumption that I thought it was long before I got my GTX 780 and overclocked it. So, I was expecting over 400W fairly easily.

 

I'm happy you bought it too because like you said, you might get another GTX 980. Or hey, you might have two GTX 1080s some day. :)

It could happen in few years and I wont have to buy new PSU so all is good smile.gif
So do you know what can I do to make the cpu work on less MHZ and voltage when on idle?
If its windows problem I dont know where to look. I looked at all the processes and turned everything thats not nessesary down and it still idled high.

But when I think of it it would then do the same thing when I put everything on default in bios, but thats not the case. It works just fine when I load optimised defaults. hmmm confused.gif

If cpu usage is high, you should be able to identify what processes are responsible for the usage in the task manager. The "details" tab is good for that. You can show/hide different columns in that view. One of the columns that can be shown is "CPU Time", that's the total amount of time the process has been using the cpu. Another is just "CPU" which is a measure of instantaneous cpu usage, as a percentage. Between those two readings, you should be able to see what is eating up the cpu.

edit: Not that it has anything todo with the high clocks or excess usage but why disable hyperthreading?

Well I disabled it because as I understood the cpu produces less heat so when I overclock it it would run cooler. Also if Im right you can make higher clocks when turned off but im not going for very high clocks.

True, disabling HT will lower temps and can make it easier to reach higher overclocks, but sounds like your temps are in hand and your just going for a decent daily driving overclock. Seems cruel to gimp the i7 smile.gif

The voltage your running seems like it might be on the high side for 4.4 but I'm not super familiar with sandybridge? If you could run a lower vcore and/or vccin that could help keep it cooler. Also, the CM hyper evo 212 is a nice bugdet cooler, but there are better coolers out there if enabling HT induces too much heat for the 212 to handle.
