Recommendations for a laptop for a friend

Thread Starter
Hello everyone how's it going?
A friend of mine wants to buy a laptop for around 900-1000$. He'll be using it for standard activities and gaming mostly. What's the best thing he can get within this budget?
Thanks in advance.
P.S : He's buying it in the US.

current i5 processor
8GB DDR4 with space to add another 8
avoid HDD, SATA6gb SSD or M.2 SSD
The highest model gfx card you can get (will probably be a 960m? maybe 1050m?)
Full HD screen 1920x1080 @ 15"

Stick to reliable brands: Toshiba, Asus, Samsung, Lenovo, Maybe HP

Don't bother with 2-in-1's if it's mainly a gaming machine
Don't bother with touchscreen if it's mainly a gaming machine

Read reviews for extra info about things like keyboard feel (some have cheap kbrds that are pretty dodgy - even from good brands)
Read review for battery info
Consider weight.

Thanks a lot, but I've been out of the loop for a LONG time. Like when you say a " current gen i5 " I don't even know what that is. Can you give me some examples on laptops if possible? On newegg or smth like that within the price range?

How long till he needs the laptop? The prices for current laptops are likely to drop soon when the Pascal laptops come out ~late Aug/early Sept

or back to school deals
