Oh boy. I'm old.

Packard Bell 486 DX2, don't remember much more about it.

Pentium Pro 150mhz 24mb RAM 1mb dedicated video (no 3D support) 2GB HD, 28.8k baud modem

AMD K6/2 400mhz OC 424mhz 1x Diamond Stealth AGP 4mb base card and 12mb 3DFX VooDoo II add on. 96(!!!)mb memory and 10gb HD. (Half Life 1, Counterstrike)

Dell 800mhz celeron, GeForce 400mx, unsure of ram, hd

I had a couple of systems in this generation, another AMD K6 350mhz as well.

AMD Athlon 3200+ 128mb ram, various hard drives, and a freakin AMD Radeon 128 32mb (This was THE Half-Life 2 machine. Also my first Counterstrike 1.3,4,5,6, and source machine)

AMD based laptop, 800mhz mobile duron, single core, 64mb ram, 20gb HD?

Pentium 4 HT 2.66ghz Overclocked to 4ghz. (Some of you remember this CPU, it was a speed DEMON) Forget the memory and stuff, that processor was just a beast. AMD X800XT (BEAST card at the time)

Intel 6850 2.6ghz CPU, unsure of memory, 8800GTS, unsure of hard drives

Intel i7 920 @4.0, 12gb memory, ridiculous Nvidia GTX 9800GX2, 60gb SSD boot + 2x 500gb 72.11 refurb RAID0

Alienware i7 720qm, 8gb memory, 5870x2 Crossfire, 256mb SSD (holy crap, at the time) + 500gb HD
Replaced with:
Alienware i7 2920qm 16gb memory, 6990m crossfire, same SSD + 1TB

Intel 3930k, 16gb samsung wonder ram, x79 Rampage Gene, 2x 256gb M4 SSD RAID 0 + 2TB.
This machine had GTX 670 > SLI GTX670 > 780Ti

Upgraded to 4930k
Upgraded to 980Ti
Removed 2x256 RAID in favor of 1x 960gb SSD

WHEW. I'm old. This was a fun trip down memory lane, thanks, OP.

The x2 walks on thr pd, Intel was Getting destroyed by amd until conroe came out
It could be faster than a P2 at times, and clearly was on business applications, but not in 3D gaming of that era. The Intel's FPU was quite a bit stronger. AMD did get a leg up for a while when they rolled out the 3DNow instructions ahead of Intel's SSE, though.

The Athlon against an early P4 was laughable. It took a 2 GHz P4 to match a Thunderbird 1400. It wasn't until Intel got a lead in manufacturing process and was able to churn out the P4 at way over 3 GHz that they took the performance lead over the Athlon XP, but then they lost it again to the A64.

Conroe was the only time in the last 18 years that I had Intel in my main desktop. Complete game-changer. I had an E4300 at 3.1 GHz, and when I replaced it in favor of an Athlon II X4 620 a couple of years on, it was no faster than the E4300 in single-thread even when I overclocked to 3.25 GHz.

AMD and Intel had a few years of back and forth until conroe with AMD leading more often than not.

Conroe is when Intel took the performance crown and ran

my first computer i wont count, it was like a 386 my dad gave me in the late 90's, i tossed it almost immediately.

around the year 2000, i decided i wanted to get into computer audio recording, so i got a dell with a 733mhz p3 and a rage 128 pro gfx card, 128 mb ram, 20 gb hard drive, 815ee mobo and windows 98 se. i got myself a hefty recording card, a Lexicon core 2, 10 input 14 output 24 bit audio interface, and it was nothing but problems. after hours on the phone with Lexicon tech support, i eventually learned that the 815ee was incompatible with the card, but we figured out a work-around in hardware manager.

That computer was dedicated to music, and only went on the internet once. I left it on all the time, and it was rock-solid stable. it was once on for over a year continuously.

The hours of tech support combing the registry and such planted the computer geek in me, but i didnt know it until years later.

i got a 2ghz p4 2nd gen style celeron for the wife shortly after, dont ask me why, but it also only had 128 mb of memory. she left the computer with me after the divorce, and it lived a humble life surfing the web rather slowly until i donated it to a church and it croaked shortly afterwards

and this brings me from the early to the late 2000's, im starting to geek out on computers. i started to hoard win98 era parts to keep my music machine running, and i picked up a preescott 3.0ghz rig (minus the hard drive) for $20 from the local compusa store closing sale, as well as a thunderbird 1.4ghz rig.

i started experimenting with computer parts, seeing what would fit, what was compatible, what would boot, what i could get dos to run on (at first with P1 era parts), then what would run win 98, xp 2000... i got this old hp scsi rserver rig running, overclocked it from 233 to 266 with the mobo pins, did the same with my dads old computer. i was having a blast.

so, i found an 80gb sata drive for the prescott rig. 3.2 overclocked, 3 ghz of ram, but then, i got my tax return, so, the prescott rig got win xp installed, and i donated it to my church

with my tax return, i got a phenom 9500 quad rig, 4 ghz ram, windows vista with a geforce 8800gt. finally, i could play crysis, and i could toss that radeon 2400 HD

and i upgraded from a p2 400mhz laptop to a 1.7ghz celeron (core2 based) vista laptop. those were the days...

in the meantime, im still trying to upgrade the music rig. the board maxed out at 512mb ram, and the 810 i tried switching to was worse- 256mb max ram. i tried running 98 on the thunderbird 1.4, but the blasted lexicon soundcard wasnt amd compatible. i eventually built a via apollo based rig with 756mb ram (took a hack to system.ini, if i remember, for win 98 to use more than 512mb), and used a 3rd party partitioning suite to partition dual 128gb hard drives for a new win 98xe install. i dropped an 850mhz pIII in the rig, and overclocked it as wide as i could get the front bus, so im getting around 933mhz, but the thing is basically retired, ive finally switched over to a core2 quad platform for recording.

after the phenom rig, my next gaming rig was intel based- Q9300 quad with 4 gigs of ram and the trusty 8800gt, which would eventually be upgraded to a 650ti, which killed the power supply, which killed the rig...

so, for a little bit, i slapped the 650ti into a p4 prescott 3.4ghz HT with 4 gigs of ram and vista, but i was serious single digit frame dropping in bioshock infinite. I was fed up, so i ordered a gigabyte FM2+ mobo and an athlon II 750K to match with the geforce 650ti, and overclocked the the 750 k upo to 4.5 ghz at one point, with my custom heatsink. i recently sold that rig for $300, and invested some of that profit into a geforce gtx 950 to drop in my new core 2 quad based music recording/gaming rig.

ya, i know its outdated, its all outdated, but it keeps me busy.... last week i swapped the 9300 for a 9550, but i really got my eye on this i5 5370 rig...

I can never compete with other posters in these kinds of threads. I entered PC building during the era in which the leftmost GPUs here reigned supreme, and when the GeForce 9 series was on the way.

But during those times I never owned any of those cards, only now I do out of nostalgia. 9800GT was the best I had, along with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 4GB OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066. Then came Lynnfield, then Sandy Bridge, now Skylake.

1st Personal Rig: AMD Phenom x6 1055T, Sapphire 6850 1gb. 8gb gskill ripjaws 1600mhz, corsair gs600w, AsRock 990FX Extreme 4 Mobo, 500GB Western Digital Blue 7200rpm

First, my cpu got fried(verified after I replace my stock cooler), melted the stock cooler. Went to store and replaced my stock cooler to a Noctua NH-D14 thinking my cpu is still okay. Unfortunately, my pc wont boot and it's showing the cpu error on debug led. This gave me the idea that i fried my cpu due to the fact that the stock cooler bracket melted. Went to pc store where i bought the cpu, then told the store that the cpu is defective. It took a month after they gave me the result which was the cpu was dead and they will replace it unfortunately, 1055t is discontinued and my better replace is an zambezi FX 6100 with the same price point of the x6 1055t, Since I dont have a choice, i grabbed the FX 6100 and overclock it to 3.8Ghz. Unfortunately my gpu died on me due to OC and replace it with a Powercolor 7878 Ghz Edition 2gb. PSU also died, went to store to get it replaced by a GS800W as replacement using my warranty.

As of now, my 2nd GPU died on me. I haven't use my PC since Feb 2016. I'm still confuse if to buy a new gpu(probably rx 480 or 1060) or build a new system based on(zen or skylake). So as of now this is my current build

FX 6100 3.8GHz
Asrock 990FX Extreme 4
Noctua NH-D14
500GB Western Digital Blue 7200rpm
8gb gskill ripjaws 1600mhz
Corsair GS800W

Ohh, specs on sig damn. my other rig, KTechDev got a defective z68 board. Still thinking on replacing it with a cheapo board.

I've had PCs from the age of 5 or so and I am 35. From a Commodore 64 (old Vic20 before that) to a Colleco Adam... I've had a lot of PCs.
