There, you just learned Linux. No, seriously. that's pretty much all you need to know.

With some distros, you don't even need to know that, because they come with GUI update managers.

Same thing happened to me.....all settings I changed (privacy, power otions, etc) were reset to default and my wallpaper is gone. It also reinstalled most drivers (even after disabling that through device installation settings).

Le sigh....welp, time to spend some time changing everything back lol

Interestingly my rig never updated to 1607. I just had to do a search for it to get it to start the upgrade. Oh well, none of these "issues" bothers me at all (why having a lock screen show up all of the 1 time I start my PC is such a big deal I dunno) and I'd prefer to have Windows as up to date as possible at all times....
At first I was excited for this update for dark mode (which is pretty pathetic considering the file explorer is still screaming white). Now that I have the update I want to beat who ever gave it the go ahead. This garbage is now the most unstable OS I have ever had the displeasure of using. I'm pretty angry that I basically paid to become a beta tester. There is supposed to be another update that I'm hoping fixes the instabilities but the thing gets stuck at 0% downloaded. Sadly enough I only use windows for gaming anymore and its failing pretty hard at that.

edit: Finally fixed the stuck update. It fixed nothing for me.

I guess this will come as no surprise but my laptop just got updated to 1607.  I ran Spybot Anti-Beacon and this was the result, on 1511 all the bars were green.  Using the update button fails as well with a SSL/TLS error.  I will be interested to see if Spybot or anyone else puts out a tool to block this crap.

I guess M$ must be making plenty of money on the data they are collecting to block tools I choose to use. And of course the default search engine is Bing even if you set your browser to Firefox.  I don't even see an option to have updates notify when to install and restart my system, so I can get backups first.  At least Candy Crush didn't come back, but MS Cloud and Cortana did.  Meantime I will doing my general surfing from a VM running Linux.  It would be nice if companies like Adobe and Intuit would support Linux I would drop Windows entirely for everything but Gaming.

That tool hasn't been updated since October 2015. It looks like it's been abandoned maybe.

Yes I was on their site earlier and came to the same conclusion. Hopefully they will update it since M$ change how they are doing things, time will tell.

2. I use gpedit.msc to disable automatic updates. It doesn't seem to work now.

I'm on a metered connection and can't have Windows waste it for me. Use services.msc and disable Windows Updates.

Has anyone noticed RAM usage seems to be better in the anniversary update? I can't tell if it's just because I only have a few days of uptime so far.

Possibly related, is the memory compression actually new to the anniversary edition, or is it just new to being displayed in Task Manager?
