I have six drives in my main pc..... crucial m4 128gb, crucial mx100 256gb, crucial m500 480gb... WD velociraptor 10k rpm 500gb, WD velociraptor 10k rpm 600gb and a WD green 1tb... Been on Win 10 since day one and updated to the anniversary update as soon as it was available directly from MS...

How does this affect the update process?

The fact that you are calling the gui an "el-cheapo chinese job" is just showing your personal bias and actually showing that you are running out of random issues you can think of that may or may not exist.

Does this update have some new security features or something? Ever since I did the update, SWTOR doesn't download patches or updates.

Actually i experienced that personally and after a little googling i found that others had this problem and the only thing that solved it was the disconnection of the other HDD's/SSD's, so this one is real, next up deleted partition tables:

Regarding GUI, its my personal preference... But you on the other hand try to judge mo for that. #troll

I didn't take the chance with my main system.  Full backup and then disconnected everything but my OS and data drives.  Worked fine.  As usual the drivers to make the PS3 joystick work are no longer installed, but that has been happening since the very beginning with the tech previews.  It left the NVIDIA and AMD video drivers alone, after the partition issues that was my next concern.

I have 6 systems in the house hold to upgrade so I downloaded the ISO/Media Creation tool to avoid downloading it 6 times on my low speed connection.  I have been working through them, getting full backups before hand. 3 done with no big issues.

I'm a troll now? Get out of here kid with that nonsense. My point was obvious, you are using a personal visual preference as a slight against the OS itself, as if that has any merit in regards to the OS functionality itself. I see a hard drive issue way back in 2015...with multiple drives. Obviously that's old news and has been very hit or miss as I've been on Win 10 since day one with my system containing 6 drives...

If I hadn't upgraded 9 systems without issues I'd be a bit more skeptical... (yes, a bunch of those have multiple drives). I'm starting to question people's setups that are having so many issues. What is everyone else doing, or what kind of magical hardware do they have that has so many problems? Feels like the people that overclock and call their system stable after a 2 minute p95 run and then wonder why they get random errors or crashes and refuse to believe its their stable oc.

It has merit on it, quite a bit. But you already know this... rolleyes.gif (and this is why you are a troll) If the UI is a mess like here less people will be interested in it, this is the reason why people continue to use win7(there are other reasons of course but this is the most frequent i think). I dont have big expectations towards an UI. It most be a consistent and well arranged(Win7, Mate desktop[linux]).

Then good for you that you dont have problems but the problem is still exists and shame on MS that it didnt fixed it.

Heads up, looks like the update broke Virtual Box and it would appear I am not alone.  Seems M$ has changed some things with Hyper-V.  Numerous suggestions to fix it here:

https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=79028

edit - looks like a reinstall of Virtual Box fixed the issue for me.

Any known USB 3.0 external devices connection issue after first boot? Seems none of my 3.0 devices, a HDD Dock, and the AVerMedia LGX will connect if I turned them on after the initial boot. Restarting the PC while they're powered on...or at least one of them is... fixes it. I can activate/deactivate them afterwards... but never works after the first bootup.

The wording has changed:

Now there is no mention of "drivers" anywhere, which makes perfect sense to me because, in my experience, that setting never had any influence over driver installation since the day Windows 10 was released. People kept saying it did, and every build I would test it, but not once did I see it prevent a driver install. I think with the revised wording we can finally put the idea that Device Installation Settings: No prevents driver installs to bed.

Another interesting AU driver management change is a new Do not include drivers with Windows Updates Group Policy setting. Unfortunately this setting only half works. When I enabled it, it did prevent most drivers from appearing in WU, but there were still some (eg. Intel IPG). Hopefully they fix it, because that would be a really valuable setting to have.

So to sum up the driver update situation in the Anniversary Update, it's still pretty much the same as it was before:

The Device Installation Settings Yes/No setting is a waste of time. Setting it to No doesn't appear to do squat.

SearchOrderConfig (regedit)/Do not search Windows Update (gpedit) will stop instant on-connection driver installations, but those drivers will then end up in WU.

The new Do not include drivers with Windows Updates (gpedit) setting seems to stop some drivers from appearing in WU, but not all.

So the only way to make 100% sure that no drivers are installed is still to use gpedit to disable automatic WU updates completely, monitor the WU updates as they come in, and hide the drivers that appear there with the WUShowHide tool.

When (if) they fix the Do not include drivers with Windows Updates GP setting, that should eliminate the need for pissing around with the wushowhide tool and make controlling drivers in Windows 10 that much easier.
