Guys, W10 runs great for me. Obviously that means it runs perfect for everyone else. No way anyone else could ever have issues when there are literally endless hardware/software combinations to potentially cause issues.

Correct. If you seen their sig. Windows 10 should be running like a boss.

well isn't windows now a service? biggrin.gif

fwiw, i can't count on one hand how many times i've had to deal with a patch, "upgrade" or service pack causing things to go south, it sucks but it happens. mind you i am far from an MS apologist being one of the first ones on the "hate train". since then i have switch trains to "dislike with suspicion concern."

Windows 10 has a lot of issues and "features". But, to be fair, "stuttering" and generally running slowly isn't one of them.

Yeah, it should run great, but if the guy is having issues and it's clearly NOT running well, that doesn't make the guy a troll. Again, infinite hardware/software combinations means not everyone will have the same experience. Just because it runs great for you doesn't mean the same for everyone else.

I kind of question their technical knowledge... especially if they are on the system actually in the sig. I run Windows 10 on a 1.6ghz Athlon II X2 and 2gb ddr3 1066... a 5400rpm drive and an onboard nvidia 6150se. Basically a VERY low end system, even compared to builds from a decade ago. I don't get stuttering at all. Obviously it's not as snappy as my current build by any means but it's hardly unusable or unstable.

Is your issue like this:

Doing something, then whole system freezes or start running super slowly for 10-30 seconds, and then dissapears? If you check Task Manager > Performance> Disks is the Activity time 100%?

If yes, then you have the same issue as me. Just rollback to the previous build if you can (because i can't...). Otherwise wait for the fix. M$ is "aware" of the issue.

Now there is no mention of "drivers" anywhere, which makes perfect sense to me because, in my experience, that setting never had any influence over driver installation since the day Windows 10 was released. People kept saying it did, and every build I would test it, but not once did I see it prevent a driver install. I think with the revised wording we can finally put the idea that Device Installation Settings: No prevents driver installs to bed.

Another interesting AU driver management change is a new Do not include drivers with Windows Updates Group Policy setting. Unfortunately this setting only half works. When I enabled it, it did prevent most drivers from appearing in WU, but there were still some (eg. Intel IPG). Hopefully they fix it, because that would be a really valuable setting to have.

So to sum up the driver update situation in the Anniversary Update, it's still pretty much the same as it was before:

The Device Installation Settings Yes/No setting is a waste of time. Setting it to No doesn't appear to do squat.

SearchOrderConfig (regedit)/Do not search Windows Update (gpedit) will stop instant on-connection driver installations, but those drivers will then end up in WU.

The new Do not include drivers with Windows Updates (gpedit) setting seems to stop some drivers from appearing in WU, but not all.

So the only way to make 100% sure that no drivers are installed is still to use gpedit to disable automatic WU updates completely, monitor the WU updates as they come in, and hide the drivers that appear there with the WUShowHide tool.

When (if) they fix the Do not include drivers with Windows Updates GP setting, that should eliminate the need for pissing around with the wushowhide tool and make controlling drivers in Windows 10 that much easier.

I recall that setting being exactly the same with win7 and 8, saying drivers in the wording, then it changed to the current state. But I can't tell for sure it prevented anything because every driver was installed before I checked that setting. I can confirm that I see "auto update driver prevented" blabla entries on event viewer.
