Come on people back in 2008-2009, glofo was nothing more than a part of amd...i remember back when they owned their fabs there were always issues and delays on almost every node/arch change, sometimes more than 10 months.
The latest product cycles look really good in comparison, this deal probably saves them a lot of money and gives them guaranteed volume instead of going to TSMC.

I don't think glofo/tsmc has much to do with polaris' power consumption, maybe 5-10%, the main issue is amd's choice of CU/shader/texture/ROP ratio, while good for compute(=consoles/dx12/vulkan newer games), it's bad for "legacy" graphics code(dx9-11).

I don't know I'm getting about 200 fps at 1800p.

Go to stormshield, or even trade district in stormwind or the horde equivalent of those, basically where theres a huge congregation of players at peak hours, and also run the game at its maximum settings of course with x8 MSAA but just leave it at 100% resolution scale. Not to mention the whole Intel compiler issue making AMD CPU's run a lot slower than they should.

TSMC has a less dense but more power efficient node that could serve AMD well but it won't fix all their problems.
What he said. I also highly doubt that the issue is the node itself, with how little the node jump helped the frequency gap is most likely due to an architectural bottleneck. They won't change fabs, they knew what they were in for.

Or the fact that the GPUs have become more and more shader focused, yet the performance per shader throughput has gone up, tells that they've done something right. The target is to stuff more shaders into a smaller area at higher clocks and lower power consumption, not pump up the ROP count. GPUs are not CPUs and they shouldn't be designed as such.

I'm already calling that most people will say that the Zen octacore garbage for not being able to match a Skylake i3 in a 2012 game that runs on two threads. Half of them probably can't even differentiate IPS and IPC anyway, but I digress.
