This smells of milkage to me. I assume this is why the 470 is launching now and not at the same time as the 480, nobody would have bought the 480. Also how different are the cards really that customs could be available day 1 for the 470 but they still aren't ready for the 480? My guess is AIBs decided the 470 was the better investment.

Damn sure there's no way I'm paying $270 for a nitro 480 now lol

That's because board partners were able to price their cards UNDER the Founders Edition MSRP. Big difference there.

As I said in our review: I think AMD popped out the RX 480 4GB as a kind of limited-run product in an effort to muddy the waters against the rumored GTX 1060 3GB. In addition, something seems to be going on with their production capacity since they can't seem to keep these things in stock and board partners are starting to complain directly to the press that they're getting next to no restocks on the cores.

Now they are faced with a situation where their RX 470 is at $179 - $199 price points seem overpriced because they are being placed up next to a card that (IMO) may not have been part of AMD's initial roll-out plans. In addition, these are still Polaris 10 cores so their actual cost to board partners isn't insignificant. As such, that $10 - $30 premium for custom cards (which is a usual upcost) now looks completely out of wack.

As for why there is a bunch of tiptoeing around these points in some reviews....I really don't know. redface.gif

Sounds like nvidia rates. Lol

But really, 1060 for $50 more and 10-15 more fps sounds like a better deal to me over the 480.

470 or 1060 hmm

I must agree that something is clearly off regarding the RX 480 4gb pricing and stock. Combo that up with the news that some RX 480 4gb cards can be flashed to an 8GB model (whether this hope is reasonable or not) many users are going to be sniffing around for the rare 4gb 480.

I get it.

Guys, guys. We have these GPU wars all wrong. It isn't Nvidia vs. AMD; it is Nvidia vs. Nvidia, and AMD vs. AMD at this point. Who needs competition when you can compete with yourself? redface.gif

When a GTX x60 seems worthwhile; is when the world ends. Sigmar guide us through these tough times of Chaos.

Having 2 different memory speeds for the RX 480 was clue enough that AMD failed to properly plan out the Polaris launch...

This price overlap just confirms AMDs incapacity to launch products successfully...

That's where all the RX 480s went apparantly

After reading the reviews, RX 470 seems as disappointing if not even more than the RX 480. Bad performance, bad price, bad optimizations in games, overall save up for a 1060 just as TPU said it.

AMD polaris AIB pricing is rampant. Almost no one sell at MSRP price lol

1060 at least I still can see some AIB offering $250 & it is faster.
