Looking to upgrade my single GTX 980
My main purpose and use is 4k Gaming.

Would you go with a single Titan X (pascal) or a 1080 SLI setup?

Right now im rocking:

i7 6700k
Gigabyte GA-Za70X Gaming 7
32 GB DDR4
SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512GB
Acer Predator 32inch G-sync 4k Monitor

My budget is around 1200-1300$ So I can go either direction. (with low end 1080s)
I do NOT anticipate getting a second Titan X pascal in the future to SLI

3rd Option would be to wait for 1080 TI?mad.gif

If I were in your position I would wait a couple months and see what Nvidia does. I'm not sure if a Ti or a better Titan is coming but I wouldn't bet against it happening.

Maybe a Titan X Ti thumbsupsmiley.png

I dont know how long i can wait though, my monitor is too much for my 980 to handle in most games.

That's actually a valid option.

But... then again I think that will always be the case.. wait one year and X anouce and the you wait Y till its actually available, etc.
So im setting my time frame to the next 2 months MAX.

I, as do many others, hate SLI. And with SLI support in many areas up in the air right now (UE4 engine games, VR games, DX12 future), it just isn't a smart thing to buy into right now. I would say just get a new Titan. Because lets be honest, we all know next gen Volta will have that same Titan level performance in the x80 card, but if you buy something like a 1070 now to tide you over, and upgrade to an 1180 in 9 months then you still spent almost as much as a Titan costs now, only you dont have the level of performance for these next 9 months. It just doesn't make any sense to go that route when the cost is overall about the same.

I also think waiting 1 months or maybe 2is a bad call. Because typically Nvidia puts out the next card in 3-4 months. So if you wait 1-2 months you will just be mad and kicking yourself because you will have just barely bought the Titan when the new card comes out. If you buy now, you will have enjoyed that level of performance for 3-4 extra months. If you wait a few months for the Ti, then you might as well just wait a few more months past that for Volta. And when volta comes out you might as well just wait a few more months for the volta titan, etc etc. Just buy it now and be happy with your games instead of thinking about well this or that is only a little ways away.
