What is wrong with adding stuff like that? Overwatch is a massive success. If you want to downplay the game before even playing it, downplay ID by having no faith in their ability to deliver. Being "old school" is just saying afraid of change at this point. Have some faith. If the game will suck, than tough luck for us, but as a Q3 player, I want some new juice in the game.

Wallhacks are a feature?

Oldschool is just another way of saying dont fix what isnt broken. Quake and ut were rivals back in the day, i dont see wallhacks and char abilities un the new UT.

As for a new audience... whered the old audience go? Im still here, i know every other q and ut player is and we no what works and what doesnt. Why dont the "ew blood" stick to overwatch and...halo? After all, theyve got their games, right?

And as for "If you want to downplay the game before even playing it", please, this isnt my first time at the rodeo.

I also don't see many people playing it (will have to check it out today as I haven't in quite a while). Probably not a very good business plan to follow the path of UT.

Not sure because games like Shootmania Storm (which I liked in the beta but didn't think it was worth my 20€) and Reflex and Nexuiz fail even though they don't seem to be bad and are very similar to Q3 or UT. So you tell me.

Saying don't fix what aint broke is counter productive to what gaming is, and is what oldschool gaming all about. You say why don't the new blood stick to Overwatch? It's like me saying why don't you oldschoolers stick to old games? You don't even know what you want. You know what you don't want. And that is in no way based on facts (of what work mechanically), but on tastes.

Think about it.

They failed because they were busy marketing themselves as "oldschool" and trying to ride the coattails of the success of the games were based on, but they lacked "street cred" of their own. They claimed quake this, ut that - This is Reflex/Nexuiz!. Gamers didnt want Reflex and Nexuiz, they wanted more of what they know attached to a familiar name.

No its not, You take whats tried an true and build on it. If it doesnt, frankensteining it isnt going to work, which is whats happening here.

I said why don't the new blood stick to Overwatch as a counter point because you said "why don't you oldschoolers stick to old games":

Quake fans want an old game, yet they have an old game. Quake champions will try to bring new blood in. Is that wrong, or just something oldschool fans disagree with? If so, they have their "oldschool" games already.

So now you're just going around in circles hoping ill get lost. You are also in no position to be telling me i dont know what i want, so hop down off that high horse as you clearly lack the experience needed to be riding it.

That wasn't my intention, sorry.

Building upon what works is exactly what they are doing yet is the thing you seem to condemn.

So you play a game based on a name? Nope that would be idiotic. People did buy it as SteamSpy says that there are around 70k owners of Shootmania and 40k of Reflex. People could even try out Nexuiz when it was free and many did as it has 300k owners recorded on SteamSpy but people just don't seem to like games like this anymore which is why you need new twists on the genre like Overwatch and Lawbreakers (which I just played today and didn't like and it will probably fail also).

So you just described what they are doing. The game seems to have the same movement and shooting but added abilities? No "frankensteining" here.

Anyway the game seems like it could be a lot of fun(even with the abilities but there must be a mode that disables them) but it needs to be priced appropriately which is probably 15€ as that is the price you can get CSGO or COD starter pack or Rainbow6Siege for. If it's easily moddable and has a good competitive mode with good matchmaking it can become great with a stable playerbase.

There are 2 games that I would pre order instantly. Those would be a remaster of Quake 3 Arena and Duke Nukem 3D. All I ask is they are both getting a graphics update. Use the same weapons, same maps, same story, same everything. As long as it has updated graphics.

That's all I want.

even keep the old net code as modern net code seems to only bring problems.

For what it is worth, I saw the first live game rounds for this last night at Quakecon. It is fast, fast, fast. Bethesda got some expert gamers for the demonstration so I was pretty blown away by what they did, likely with something prior experience already, but it looked good. The emphasis on the individual powers wasn't as much as I expected, and despite the obvious comparisons to Overwatch I feel this is way more independent and quicker overall to differentiate itself. Pricing will be key though.
