Can't get past 4.4 GHz with i7 3770k. Increasing voltage causes instability.

Hello

I'm trying to get at least 4.5 GHz with my i7 3770k.

I've managed to get a somewhat stable (only run 2 hour Prime95 stress test) 4.4 GHz overclock with 1.250 vcore, but when I try to go for the 4.5 GHz overclock, I hit a wall.

I've tried going all the way up to 1.400 vcore (in small steps from 1.250 vcore), but it doesn't seem to help. In fact, my overclock seems to become more unstable the more vcore I add.

Whenever I increase my voltage to about 1.300 and above, I instantly get a BSOD when stress testing.

I've tried setting my core clock to stock, and use a vcore of 1.400. My PC boots without any problems, but when I run Prime95, it instantly crashes.

I am basically stuck at 4.4 GHz, and increasing vcore causes instability issues.

Also: HWiNFO64 does not report temps above 80 degrees Celsius when testing the different voltages.

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth z77

what about increasing clocks and decreasing voltage? sometimes logic doesn't apply in a best way.

Reset mobo by jumper or cmos and try again a very bad fail at overclocking will result in needing to do this

I tied doing this, then running stock settings, with 1.400 vcore. I could boot, but when I ran Prime95, I got a bsod within seconds

Already tried this

BTW:

Can it be that my PSU is the problem? It is a CX750W

I've also noticed that my vcore hovers around 1.301 in hwinfo.

What's is the bsod error code?
