It's much easier to start from something that boots than for something that doesn't boot.

As an aside, if you're doing the math to get the new timings, don't forget that you have to round up any fractional timings.
Auto doesn't fire up right at 2133mhz. It POSTs, but crashes when loading Windows.

tRC 42 -> 54 2133 / 1866 x 42 = 48

Err - are you sure about that 14.8? When I do the math on tRCD, it comes to 12.58.

I'll try manual settings once again, to see if it starts up with it set higher, but I think I did the math correct/conservative?

I have an Asus Sabertooth 990FX, which seems to be one of the better boards for RAM overclocking, according to those charts. That's good. smile.gif I was aware that weaker boards could be terrible, but didn't realize that there's that much of a difference among 990FX boards. Thanks for bringing that to my attention!

I'll tinker with it a bit more in a couple of hours, to see if I can get it to fire into Windows.

I can't seem to get it very stable past ~1920mhz without slamming voltage through it. My CPU also requires a lot more volts to go from 4.6 to 4.7ghz, so I've hit a bit of a wall getting stable in the 4.6-4.8ghz range. I can play with the FSB to push it closer, but then my CPU speed gets too high and my volts/temps get out of control when loading all cores. (Which I do very frequently!)

I'll probably just run it 4.6ghz 4x8GB 1866mhz CL10-11-10-28 1T for daily use - I can't really argue with that. Way better than my old kit.

From experience Auto everything for some Asus boards and even the Sabertooth with AMD CPUs not always work for higher speeds than the native controller, I'm not sure if its because of the memory sticks I've used but I've always got better results with math based manual settings just like Kramy did.

AUTO would only work for me up to 1866 in my Vishera CPU, in my Sabertooth, from that the motherboard will not loosen enough some timings making it impossible to work stable or even boot in some cases.

I've got 2133 10-11-10-32 6-42-14-7 and 2133 10-11-11-30 6-44-14-7 with two different sticks both at 1.65v, the ones with slightly tighter timings were significantly faster those were originally 1600 cl7 1.5v, the other were a 2400 cl11 that I bought specially for that system but they would refuse to work at 2400 stable, I think the limiting factor is the CPU memory controller in this case, with the same kit I managed 1940 10-11-10-28 7-39-10-7 at the same 1.65v.

Important the secondary settings were absolutely necessary for stability, auto will not cut it.

Here are some performance numbers for the 2400 kit:
Phenom II limited:
http://ranker.sisoftware.net/show_run.php?q=c2ffcdffd9b8d9e4dceeddeed7e5c3b18cbc9aff9aa797b1c2ffcf
Vishera limited:
http://ranker.sisoftware.net/show_run.php?q=c2ffcdffd9b8d9e4dceedbefdfeccab885b593f693ae9eb8cbf6c6

I think the best is always to loose the timings enough to achieve a main goal, in my case it was 2400 cl12 at first and then tighten, that way you will achieve your maximum ram speed frequency, I couldn't loosen up further because the MB would not give the option in bios.
