Looking for input on this 2U build.

Hello all,

I am trying to build a server style platform to fit a 2U cheap norco case. This unit will be mounted in a rack with Amateur Radio gear to handle the digital side of things.

My base minimum Requirements are
Dual core 2.8ghz
4gb ram
120gb ssd
High quality PSU
3 USB ports (2.0 is fine)
Ability to use 2 screens minimum

My budget is very tight but let see where this leads. Needs to be shipped from inside Canada, i prefer newegg but others are possible. hoping to land in the $450-$500 Canadian(before tax and shipping) price bracket

Items i have in mind at this point are as follows
EVGA Supernova 550 G2
Norco RPC-230
MSI H110M
i3-6100

I put this all in a public wishlist on Newegg.ca
Wishlist

I am aware that a common power supply will be an issue, with the top/bottom exhaust (Standard) use now instead of a front to rear (older style) like would be required for that case. Although i am considering a Rosewill RSV-Z2600 case that has allowance for a standard type. I could also just modify the cheaper case, as when mounted in the rack that won't be an issue with a power bus above using little space.

Will i have issues with cooling the cpu using the stock cooler?

I am looking at the 2U cases as the depth in the rack is less then the 4U units and i'd like to stay shallow as cheap will permit lol

Thanks all
Joe

Revamped the parts list some i have a 450 watt power supply that will do the job and an 840 evo 120gb ssd for it too.

MSI H100m Pro-vd
Intel i3-6100
g.Skill NT 8gb ram stick (leaves room to add another if needed)
Rosewill RSV-Z2600

Planing to order thursday most likely

Do you happen to have a Free Geek location near you? You can grab some used equipment for dirt cheap there that night meet your needs and allow you to get better psu and case. My 2 cents is don't buy new unless you have to.

Also would recommend against the 840 evo
