Gelid GC-Extreme Firming time?

So normally when I change cpu's/boards/cooling my old GC-Extreme paste is pretty firmed up and no longer slick. I installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 drive in my motherboard. The board though is vertical mount being in an Air 240. Seeing as it's a 950 Pro I needed to install heatsinks to keep it from thermal throttling. I applied my normal dab of GC-Extreme to each chip and installed Enzotech BMR-C1 (I think that's what they were) heatsinks then flipped the case up.

The heatsinks instantly started sliding down. :-( This obviously is a no go. So since that time last night I've had my 240 Air sitting on it's side hoping the thermal paste will start it's solidification process that it always does under a cpu cooler. Anyone have an idea how long this takes so I can flip my case back upright in a safe time frame? wink.gif

Thermal paste isn't meant to do that. At may take hours, days, weeks or even years to harden up. The better ones take the longest.

You need thermal adhesive.

I didn't have a problem in my game rig using it when the drive sat horizontal and the heat sinks hung upside down in a pci-e expansion card for temporary until my Kryo m.2 waterblock came in. I hoped for the same results this route on my new board in my daily.

The problem with using adhesive strips is the Samsung label on the chips and damaging it should I need to remove the heatsinks for warranty in the future. Have any input on what strips aren't cement and can be pealed off without damaging a label?

Strips? Do you mean thermal pads?
...You want glue that doesn't stick?

I've used adhesive strips in the past that can be removed easily. They were a stock product though and it's been so long I don't even remember what the products were exactly. It is out there just a matter of what brand can actually be removed and what is in fact cement. So no I wasn't talking about thermal pads. Those don't stay stuck to anything unless put under pressure and heat for a while and still they tend to peal right off and probably won't suit this purpose.
