In need of help on new build for animation and gaming.

I think this is the best section, if it is not I apologize. I have questions about multiple components and have been out of the hardware loop for years. This build will be used mostly for animation projects. I will be primarily using maya, photoshop and adobe after effects. But I also want something I can use to play some games like starcraft. Here is a list of the parts I am considering:

motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-UD3
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700k
RAM: 2x8gb ddr4 memory (probably G.Skill or Corsair)
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0
case: NZXT S340 black steel ATX mid tower
HD: either a WD black 1TB or samsung ssd
PSU: 750W corsair CX-M
cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

As far as the motherboard it is a good price, $120. I like the color scheme. Reviews seem to be solid and it has everything I need for the configuration I have listed above. Unless I am missing something I think I am safe with this choice.

I feel the same way about the processor I chose. Intel processors have always been far superior when it comes to rendering so I think this is a very good choice and the price is also within my range.

I do have questions about the RAM I choose though. I am unsure if I should spend the money on DDR4 3000+ memory or if DDR4 2133-2400 memory would provide me nearly the same results. I have read that in a gaming environment the difference is unnoticeable. But for a rendering environment I do not know if it would make a difference. And this is something I am curious to know more about.

I am comfortable with my GPU choice. At first I was going to save money and get the radeon rx 480. But they are sold out everywhere and I was going to buy another one in the future so I figured why not just get a single gtx 1070. I have always had better luck with Nvidia cards anyway. If you have any comments or other suggestions this is an important component for this build so I would love to hear them.

I really like the case, it is cheap and looks really good. I do want to make sure I am not going to have any problems fittings the components I have mentioned but otherwise I think it is a good choice. Also I was going to buy a clc in the near future, and this case seems to be designed for one.

I am not really concerned about the hard drive. I just am not sure how much money I want to spend on one. And as far as the power supply would I be able to throw another gtx 1070 in there with 750 watts?

For the record my budget is around $1250 which is almost exactly what everything has added up to.

That motherboard is incompatible with the processor you have chosen. You should either buy a 6th generation i7 or downgrade to a Z77 motherboard and buy compatible memory.

First off the PSU you picked is not all that good and there is a reason why its cheap so find something better
Why you should not buy a Corsair CX750

Second you dont actually need a 750 watt PSU for that system and you can step down to a 650 watt and still have more then enough power
The Corsair RMx 650 watt cost $10 more on newegg then the CX750 and that one is light years better so spend those extra $10 and get an RMx instead

Third the CPU cooler you picked is old outdated as well as not all that good or quiet, a much better option would be the Cryorig H7 which cost almost the same.

Last as said already you cant fit a 2700K on a Z170 board, did you make a typo and meant to say 6700K?

You're going to want both a HDD and SSD. I shudder at the thought of loading an operating system from a hard disk drive. I would also go for the WD Blue instead of the Black. You can get a 512 GB SSD for a fairly competitive price these days. If you need to make room in your budget, step down to the GTX 1060. If you're gaming at 1080p it's the better value anyway.

Any CPU cooler's sound profile will be dictated by its fans. I just installed a Phanteks PH-TC12DX in a friend's build recently. I liked that it came with two fans for a push-pull configuration and the fans were fairly quiet. It's a tad pricier than the Cryorig H7 though.

Yes I meant to write the i7 6700k, not the 2700k. That was just a typo.

Sorry about the typo, I did mean to say 6700k. Ha you and the other guy had me freaking out because I was so sure the processor I chose was compatible with the board. And thanks for the warning about the cx750. I will figure something out and will probably go down to a 650-700 watt power supply. I just can't push my budget much further so I am going to have to find something right around the same price.

As i said before you can get a Corsair RMx 650 watt for $10 more when the CX750 on newegg if you use their rabates
The Cryorig H7 is like $5-10 more then the Hyper 212 Evo so we are talking less then $25 more and you get much better parts in the end.
