OP is it possible you're experiencing the infamous DPC latency issue? Have you checked out the thread in relation to that issue and downloaded the tool to verify?

What games do you play? That way we can have an idea if/how much you're CPU bound. (Can't believe no one asked that before suggesting RAM)

I verified, its not that. I dont get fps drop or stuttering in a lot of games. Only a few of them, and doesnt happen often.

But i still try to get the best gaming experience possible . Witcher 3 with no aa and no hairwork still get a few fps drop or stuttering in 4k. But this game is so difficult to run perfect.

If you wanna see for yourself, find a spot in any game that raises your cpu usage high. then drop your 1600 kit speed to 1066mhz and see what happens.

Thanks for the idea, i will try that.

If someone find a bios mod for asus h97-plus to use ram faster than 1600mgz, please let me know. Thanks
post #25 of 42
didn't know h97 can only run 1600. looks like chipset limitation. there goes your 2400 ram.

I tested it a lot with witcher 3, youre right , much more fps drop occurs and they were worst. For a example , my 55-56fps drop was 49-50 with 1066 speed instead...
Its not night and day difference , but 1600 is really better.

So finally i sold my h97-plus and 32gb ddr3 1600 for 200$Canadian money and i got a big sale deal so i bought 32gb ddr3 at 2400 mhz cas 11 from Team Dark( i will overclock at cas9 or 10 or 2666mhz) and i bought a MSI Z97 PC MATE. I bought this msi board and the ddr3 team dark memory because it was very cheap vs other hardware choice. So in canadian money it cost me 280$CA( its like 180-190us money) , so for 80$ more im ok with changing my ddr3 memory and im happy to got a z97 board too. I trust msi a lot, i always loved their board and custom videocard.

What do you think of this guys? Is it a good deal, a good upgrade for 80$ ?

I have another question. I checked a lot on the web, i have a 1tb wd black for Windows10 and gaming, and it seem that SDD hard disk only offer faster loading, but no fps gain. Is it true? Otherwise i will buy a cheap one . But i had one with a laptop and i dont care about os loading faster , and programs loading faster. If it cant offer better game performance in fps , i dont want it. BUT if it can help with fps drop or stuttering i will buy one. Thanks for your opinions, its always very appreciated guys smile.gif

there's no point for 2666mhz on Haswell/Devil's Canyon really. It stops scaling after 2400MHz. I've seen negative scaling on 2666mhz memory even.
ssd's don't boost fps, that's true. but some games (like witcher 3 for example) load a lot of stuff from the disk when you open a new area.

Loading times aside, SSDs help with stuttering in some games. I tested it awhile ago, and it was like night and day in Planetside 2, for example, but didn't make a big difference in ME3 Co-op.

EDIT: But since you have 32GB, you could just set up an enormous RAM cache and get a similar effect.

RAMDisk is 10-20x faster than SSDs

Yeah, but you won't notice the difference between that and an SSD 90% of the time. At that point, loading is CPU bound anyway.
