GIGABYTE GA-F2A68HM-H FM2+ $50
AMD A6-5400K Trinity Dual-Core 3.6 GHz Socket FM2 $30
Mushkin Enhanced 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 $13

Under $100 upgrade. This is a DEAD upgrade path, since the mother will be using it, long as she isn't doing anything crazy it'll work.

Onboard video & Audio will do you plenty. Might have to get another OS for it though, not sure.

Nice eBay combo $100

I would highly recommend going the above build

Another effort to keep what you have going

But if you want to keep what you have, this will work. You have a PCI slot, and a PCI-e 16x slot, both of which don't require a lot of power so I think that should work nicely.

also thanks a lot for everyone that have replied in this thread.

i know the computer is super old and its better to trash it and buy a new one.
But my father only wants it to work for now for a while, and he needs his speakers, afterwards he will give it to my mom or something.
he do plan on buying a new pc in the future, but not right now, thats why he want to buy something cheap for max 240 usd, the less the better.....
he just want to get what he can for that money or if you guys can recommend a build/pc for 240 usd....

so if he buys the EVGA GeForce 210, will he be able to watch some 720p hd movies lag free? or it wont work at all because of the cpu ?

No the CPU is lagging the HD movies, not the video card.

Here is what I came up with, slightly over your budget:

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=3706561

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=1390702

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=730741

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=83789

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=3670314

Get two of these

Get this if you need an optical drive:

If I'm not mistaken, the GPU will be taking most of the load. I know the processor is slow, but I think it'll work fine.

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=707421 Xonar DG 300 Krona

http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=2574374 MSI 210 200 Krona

I believe a soundcard will also take some load off the CPU (I think.)

Also read here for tips on 1080p video.

unfortunately that motherboard only supports pentium 4 and celeron d cpus, so even if you put a gpu or more ram in there, you will still be bottlenecked by the slow pentium 4, you cant fix that computer, the only type of noticeable upgrade will be to put an ssd in there, you will be bottlenecked by the sata 1 interface, but your random read performance will be noticeably faster, an ssd would be the last thing that can make that thing faster, even then, i would just replace the whole thing, if it was a core 2 duo system it would make more sence to upgrade it, but the p4 is long dead by now.

If you decide to go with my last suggestion, update the thread if you would. It would be humorous to prove everyone wrong that you can indeed make that setup play 1080p videos.

Of course we know a new build would be better, however we can't always afford a new setup.

An i3 or A10 would play movies / browse just fine.
Current 1TB 7200rpm drives are a lot faster than the drives in that pc

That's a P4 with 2MB ( 2005? )

Can he reuse the PSU and case?
