Not a tin-foil hat guy, just a regular Joe chiming in. The company's too big for this to just be random and that's just an easy to chew, easily acceptable cover. Something likely put them on alert and they prevented something that we'll likely never know, or at least for a long time. "Big Company" is still people - those are humans there, and they likely noticed something odd and reacted.

It's an airport people...

Okay, updated: In light of the facts presented, it appears my opinion above was wrong...so, -1 intelligence points for the week. Guess it was mechanical / fire related issues after all.

This. So many times I have heard clients say 'It's all on the cloud these days anyway'.

Although some companies do really understand the need, it is more of am exception than it is a norm.

delta is big enough to have redundant data centers i would imagine...at least enough of a redundancy to keep basic systems online. so, with that train of though this just makes me think something was happening with "all the things" and they pulled the master plug.

I have been there my friend.
I was delayed in Houston for 6 hours in August of 2014. We were headed to Atlanta to catch a connecting flight. When we finally boarded the plane, our connecting flight was scheduled to have already landed at the final destination. That flight ended up getting cancelled. We got one of the last rental cars in the Atlanta airport to drive the 2 hour drive to the final destination. The car was filled with ants and we got bitten the entire ride and had to drive the car back the following day.

What a horrid trip that was.
I hope yours is better!!

This is one of the reasons I don't use cloud services if I can help it. There is an awful lot of failure points. Somethings bound to go wrong at some point.

I work in consulting, this is very good news for me.

I got some selling to do to them <3

Yes to all those who have said "they are too big to fail" look at banks in 2008, they all failed.

And YES read other comments where IT tell CFO, CIO,CEO that investment needs to be done on systems, and YES they ignore it. This is because of ignorance.

It is 2016, and as a consultant that is my job to help the CIO convince the CFO and CEO to invest by bringing market insight and research to the table.

Then if it fails, they blame consultants, if it works CIO gets bonus. That's all that happens day to day -.-
