Good budget board for 8370? - Page 2

Looks good. Not sure the difference in the UD3 and UD3P but the UD3 is a solid 970 board with 8+2 VRM so I'd like to assume the UD3P would be similar.

Edit> Also, newedd has the same board, with MIR for about $10 cheaper. Link

Ugh, 300+ reviews and the average is 3/5. That's a turnoff for sure.

Alright, last question... Assuming I buy a board with at least 8+2 with digital vrm, what am I looking at max OC with a hyper 212?

Depends on the chip/board/power but 4.4 ghz at the least 4.6ghz as an average , best I've seen was 4.8ghz under full loads.

Go read the bad reviews... Most are about combo deals being messed up, not having most up to date bios out of box to support FX or problems with rebates. I would never use newegg reviews to help me decide on a purchase, they are useless.

It is a fantastic board for the price, pay no attention to the newb reviews.

Is that the limit of the 212+, the mediocre 8+2 board, or the AMD silicon?

I couldn't agree more. Newegg reviews are the absolute worst. Wish they would allow comments under reviews like amazon.

Yeah, on paper 8+2 board for $54 is crazy.

Really wish there were half decent AM3+ microATX boards. They just simply don't exist.

Whatever board you do end up going with, a little active cooling on the socket area behind the motherboard in between the back panel where your cable management is located...and another active fan on the VRM heat sink to keep constant air flow over them, will both do wonders in helping you achieve your goals.

I am incredibly surprised more enthusiast grade cases don't have built in mounting of sorts for cooling those two areas better. I did however see the latest revision of the Asus Tuf Sabertooth R3.0 has an optional fan mount in the IO area that specifically cools the VRMs. Need more forward thinking engineers like these. thumb.gif

Then i wouldn't have to break out my drill saw and do things like this...

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Mounted a stock HS/Fan under my socket on DAT_ASHE build

Yes tongue.gif

Generally, you will be limited by that cooler with an 8+2 phase board , beyond that it would be a tight race between silicon lottery and motherboard quality.

The weakest 8+2 phase board I've used would push the poorest clocking 8320 I've had to 4.7ghz on prime 95, but that was with exceptional water cooling and a really good psu.
