USB ports are working and not working at the same time - weird issue

I am really out of ideas and I don't know if anyone can actually narrow down this problem for me.

Today I was trying to transfer some data to my flash drive (Sandisk Ultra 3.0) when in middle of transfer it just disconnected by itself and refused to work again.
I thought ok maybe it died, I tried another usb flash drive and it worked (2.0).

Later I tried the Sandisk 3.0 drive on my laptop and it worked flawlessly. So, I thought maybe the front panel connecters have gone bad. Tried using the flash drive by adding it at the back of the mobo - same issue.

Then later I tried connecting my android phone to the front panel connects to transfer some pictures, it worked. But after a while it stopped transferring data as well!

So right now the front panel connecters are completely useless - but usb 2.0 flash drives works flawlessly. My phone, 3.0 flash drives aren't working. But these are not working even if I use them by inserting them on the mobo slots.

What could be the issue?

During this entire time I'm also using a usb keyboard, mouse, gamepad and a webcam - all in the usb 3 ports on the mobo. All these devices are working perfectly. It seems the only issue is when I gotta transfer the data from some devices whether its a flash drive or my mobile (it's charging but doesnt transfer data).

PC specs are in the sig below. Any ideas what's going on here?

As I recall, most Z87 boards had some pretty broken USB 3.0 implementation.

That said, I'd check your selective suspend settings first... and by check I mean disable, and subsequently nuke from orbit.

It's always disabled in my case.

The thing is, I've used this exact flash drive on the exact same pc for months with no issues at all so I don't think it's the hardware :/
