When I overclock my CPU my screen flickers

If I ever try to overclock my FX-8320 or even underclock it in the slightest amount without changing the voltage my screen flickers violently and it is unusable. Then when I reboot my computer all of my preferences for all of my games, apps, programs, etc. are all reset. I use to be able to overclock fine with moderate rises in temps but after I underclocked one time to conserve power my computer doesn't function properly. Please Help frown.gif

P.S. I use AMD Overdrive

hello,
first, does your motherboard support overclocking please?
if not sure, please ask, we don't mind answering it, just need the make and model (asus m5a99x, ect).

its recommend to do bios overclocking. you should just have to turn that multiplier up to 20x probably without adding voltage.

top of this amd cpu forum has a list of guides on the subject of bios overclocking. have a read, its easy really.

I have a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard and from what I have read it does have good overclocking abilities and I have used the bios to overclock before, I just thought it would be more convenient to not have to shut off my computer every time I changed something. I decided to try the bios instead of overdrive and it worked great with no issues! I guess overdrive isn't the way to go when overcloking. Thanks for the help! biggrin.gif
