Unsure of what to get...1060/1070/1080

Hello,

I am in the market for a new GPU. I play at 1080p @ 60, and I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon. In fact, I will not be upgrading any of my PC components any time soon, either. I am wondering if I should go with a 1060, 1070 or a 1080. I know it is a huge difference between the 1060 and the 1080, but I thought I would ask because it will have to last me for a long time and I do like to play my games with all the eye-candy and performance I can get. Oh, I should mention that I play all games from FPS to RPG to strategy.

So, here's the deal: I have enough in my budget to get a 1080. However, that is the max of my budget. If I do go with that card, am I correct in assuming that would last me for a very long time? The 1070 seems to be a great card for going 1080p @ 60, and from what I read, the 1060 is kind of the sweet spot for 1080p @ 60. I am just wondering for how long, though.

I am also open to the idea of an AMD/ATI card.

Anyhow, I know it is kind of a weird question, but I thought the knowledgeable people here could help me out a bit.

Thank you in advance for all of your help, advice and suggestions.

If you don't plan on getting a new monitor with higher refresh rate or resolution and you aren't interested in buying a VR headset, I think the 1080 would be overkill. How long are you hoping the card will last? You almost always get more for your money if you buy a mid range card and just upgrade more frequently.

Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I will not be upgrading my monitor, at all. I hoping it will last 3-5 years.

I'd say to go with a good custom 1070 then, if you want to be able to just max everything out, turn on VSync and not have frame dips or anything. I agree that the 1080 would be overkill, but I'm not confident the 1060 would continue that trend in a couple years with newer games.

I also don't think that anything from the AMD side will do what you want either, just to address that. The Fury lineup would for the next 2 years probably, but I doubt that after 2-3 years (assuming the VRAM limit isn't hit first). So I'd stick with the current gen cards.

You want a gpu to last 3-5 years and you like to crank up the eye candy? You will need the fastest card at your budget. Assume worse case senario, 3 cards benched against TW3.
