HELP! NEVER OC'D BEFORE! FX-8320 GIGABYTE 970A-UD3

Hi there you guys, new to overclocking as my buddy has told me to try it out since im getting terrible performance out my setup.
I have an AMD FX-8320 with the GIGABYTE 970A-UD3 motherboard, I've already looked up some stats on how much I can get out with it, looking at around 4.3 max with my cooling unfortunately but its better than what I have now.
I have no Idea on how to overclock and what to change and what not to. This motherboard and its bios are difficult for me to understand and I could use some assistance.

My VID IS 1.415V.

If you guys could help me out with some tips or show me a tutorial on how to overclock this motherboard it would greatly appreciated!

hello,
do you have the right bios to support your cpu?
it should do, but install cpu-z and then check the motherboard tab, it should tell you the bios number, if f7 or above your good.
I would then read that guide and start that overclocking.

It is F7.
I have seen on how to do it, just not sure on what I need to change. I saw in this thread, http://www.overclock.net/t/1420245/fx-8320-gigabyte-970a-ud3 , that I can do 4.3 on stock voltages without any problems but I am unsure what to change in the bios for this exact setup.

I have a similar set up and would be happy to help with specific questions. If you are truely new then my best advice is to take it slow and read a lot of guides. Get the terminology down and do little changes at a time.

Your poor performance is almost assuredly due to using stock settings on that 8320e...which while good for lower power consuption and generating less heat in an office style set up that requires lots of multi tasking...its terrible for gaming.

The good news is that if and when you achieve a solid OC that is stable, you will have very similar performance yields to the higher priced and higher end 8350 and 8370 line ups at similar clocks.

So reaf up and start gathering a large assortment of software tools as you become aware of them. Many are mandatory, most are useful, and some are nesrly identical but offer you choices based on how you like things layed out.

Some of the ones i use...

HWinfo64

AMD Overdrive

P95 v27.9

Gpu-Z

CPU-Z

Nova bench

3DMark

Good luck, have fun, and take it slow.
