Skylake-E should come out ~mid next year to, possibly with 8 cores. I don't think AMD can really live up to that.
The 2066 X series have up to 10 cores according to WCCF.

Well you can get a 10 core today. For 1700$.
I was more talking about an 8 core cpu that's affordable.

All depends on what you call "Affordable". For some, computers are just a hobby that they will spent whatever it takes to get what they want no matter the price. Not unlike others are with cars, boats, guns, stereo/sound equipment, guitars(Points at self, I have 12 Electric and 7 Acoustic/Acoustic-Eletric's), etc. Computers are a fairly cheap hobby compared to some of the most popular ones out there. I have a great setup, way more than most but not too extreme and I have maybe 5-6 grand in mine if I count some older parts that I have since replaced and that is pennies compared to something like a car hobby. I got my 5960x for less than $750 and my 780 Ti's were about $700 for the first one and $250ish for the 2nd. The biggest amount of money put into mine is storage, by a long shot. It's all relative. I could build a system 4 time what I have in mine and still not touch someone fixing up a custom car or someone that has 25 handguns an counting (a friend of mine).

I get what you meant though. We really do need AMD to step up. The prices are still too high, due to lack of competition, just not to the extreme like some think. Computer building hobby is relatively cheap as far as hobbies go.

Well, I've waited this long for Zen so whats another 6 months? I just hope its all they hype it up to be or it could be problematic for them to say the least.

What was obvious is your lack of appreciation to how long an architecture is in the oven so to say. Bulldozer was being designed while AMD already had loads of cash going for them. Do not detract from the larger picture. While Phenom was being taped out, Bulldozer was already advertised by one John Freuhe as reinventing the wheel and an uber chip.

People truly forget that AMD once priced chips at 1000 euros and had designs running in parallel to what they were selling. Phenom was already in the works when E6600, the AMD Athlon FX Killer, was being released. Why not admit that AMD made wrong decisions even in roadmaps and chip design.

I guess it is easier to blame INTEL for anti-competitive behaviour. I also noticed you completely ignored my point on how AMD has never optimized properly for DX 11.

*Helped! I know about the bad decisions eg the second fab, 'real men have fabs' was the biggest fail imo. Mahigan has explained amd and dx11 extensively, serial api - parallel arch, its heavily optimized in drivers, it has to be or it would be alot worse for amd.
edit fwiw going tooth and nail to undercut everyone to win the consoles then creating your own api and getting kronos/ms to take it on is a monumental effort to 'fix dx11 overhead', they get my respect for that and quite possibly my money when I replace my aging gtx680 soon.

Damn, I might have to do a half ass build. My 1055T is running out of juice. I might get a i5 6400 some good ddr4 ram and a budget board to hold me over

Dammit looks like I'm going Intel for my new build this xmas. Its a shame because my 8350 is actually holding up well in normal games but in VR its really lagging behind frown.gif

I thought VR was more GPU bound. Sure it's not your 290 lagging behind?

Because when you illegally starve a tech company of resources it has massive repercussions up and down the chain of the whole enterprise that undermines development. If you have money you can afford more time in R&D, instead of being under the gun to get something out the door before the lights go out, you gibbering drongo.

Any estimates on improved singlethreaded performance for Zen? What can we expect? Ivy/Haswell like performance? That would be more than sufficient to me. At least for my intended purpose which is just gaming/OCing i'd love to have an 8c-8T in that realm.
