Keep like MSI afterburner monitor running in the background, run a game for a little bit then just go back and look at the charts. See if you are still getting that bottle neck anywhere just off of one display.

I just tested dota 2 with the other monitor unplugged and CPU usage doesn't go over 50%. As soon as I add the HDTV it spikes up to 70-80% and when I put a 1080p stream on the HDTV it goes up to 96%.

I also tried VLC player with a blue ray movie and it's very suttery low fps but the CPU usage is very low under 20%. However, the GPU usage is very low too.

Hi,

I also have an i5 2500k OCed at 4.5 Ghz. My graphics card is a GTX660 and I also have in addition to my monitor a hdtv connected. Monitor via DVI and TV via HDMI.

So I just tried to reproduce your issue. I ran two Unigine Heaven Benchmarks with and without the TV connected, and when I had it connected I had a YouTube video playing in hi def with the perf monitor open and precision x open monitoring freqs.

Difference between the 2 runs? Almost nothing. 1905 with only the monitor and no YouTube and 1884 with the setup I described. CPU utilization never went up 50%.

I think your issue lies elsewhere. A driver or a cooling issue? The 2500k is a beast, It should not bottleneck you system.

I'll have to try a couple different scenarios with and without the 2nd monitor.

Yes definitely try it out,

Yes that is very strange, are all your fans running correctly? Adding a HDTV should not do this. I would even go as far as re-seating everything in your computer and cleaning it while your in there, then check all your drivers.
