At some point, if you intend to use a laptop in a public place.. It had BETTER BE a Macbook..

That's the end of the story.. since that is the ONLY laptop brand with Luxury (Expensive) reputation..

Yes, All of us at OCN knows better, but our technical knowledge is not representative of the AFK world view.. and the only question that matters is, will it get you laid..... biggrin.gif

By all means keep your lenovo x220s at home, you're probably the only person capable of appreciating it..

Actually, I think other than students - Macbooks are also great for developers/engineers. I love using Homebrew, and having a native UNIX-style terminal is a lot better than in the Windows analogue.

One can also use a Macbook to make money, which is probably one of the things looked upon favorably in those Alphamale-esque forums/threads. tongue.gif

Usually for irrelevant studies too biggrin.gif

Nah anything with a touchscreen and LTE get's enough puss. Just don't have a 5 kg laptop and you'll be fine. (Perhaps the few women at engineering studies are different after all they are more like boys in many ways)

MBPs/MBAs are sexy. Period. The vast majority of rMBPs out there are used exclusively for FB, youtube and casual typing of notes.

SP3/SP4 are sexy (-ier for me) but the keyboard is a bit lacking imho. And ofc although I would love one for Adobe LR/PS work, a MBP has notably more horsepower (and a better keyboard). At least they've tried to cover 1/2 of that with the Surface Book. The majority of SPs are also used for things you could do in a far cheaper machine.

XPSs are nice, but not really cheaper than rMBPs. The screen bezel is sexy too, but doesn't buy you the recognition of the rMBP in the coffeeshop, so why? Most won't be using it for what its supposed to do anyways tongue.gif

In my office we have 2x the latest XPS 15 for those that need to run WinOS on the go, mainly for Autodesk etc products, but all managing staff members use MBP/MBA...its for emails anyways, so whatever rocks their boat.

Conversations with students (mainly for architecture major) that ask for a "good laptop" are usually devolve from "which is the best laptop for my needs" to "my dad promised me $2500-3000 for a laptop, so it would be silly for me to spend less out of his pocket". And apparently it is a fact that although getting a new $1000-1200 (Win-PC) laptop every 1-1.5y is a far better investment (not environmentally ofc), it is harder for parents to justify that over a one-time-expense of those $3000, that companies will make sure that the novelty of being a top of the shelf unit is obsolete 6m later...who is to blame tho? tongue.gif (and ofc most arch students with a Mac will run mostly Windows on it, which makes it perfectly counter intuitive, and adds the cost of the OS ontop)...

LTE on a laptop is teh best...tethering works, but...

After 8 years of owning various macbooks and spending over $15,000+ in mac hardware, my 2012 rMBP will likely be my last. I'm not going to pay almost $3000 for a loaded sample with a m460 that's going to perform worse than a 750ti when running a 45 watt power envelope. So far this round, AMD's 14nm glofo has almost the same performance/watt as 28nm Maxwell. The upcoming 1060m is going to eat the m460 for lunch.
Waiting for the XPS 15 refresh....

Hahahahahaha... don't think you've ever picked up a lady period, if that's your actual criteria..

Keep in mind, Everyone on OCN agrees with your technical assumptions.. But we're talking real world here..

The female does not care about macbooks, she doesn't care about computers whatsoever.... She cares that you HAVE MONEY....

How much money.. At least enough to BUY a Macbook.. thumb.gif

Not True at all....

For example..

If your laptop says, MSI, Acer, Razer, Toshiba, Doesn't matter if that laptop has Xeon + 1080m + touch + LTE.. The female automatically puts you on the ignore list..

AdoredTV actually just released his RX 460 review, and with the results noted that he was able to undervolt the RX 460 to as low as it would allow in WattMan and still handily beat the 750 Ti in every benchmark, all the while pulling I think a total of 93 watts (total system power consumption) from the wall.
Not bad I think, not something I would spend 3K on personally, but something a bit more reasonably priced I'd love to just install Debian on would be great.

Although I was unaware that one's sex life was determined by their laptop brand... good info I guess?

My god I love OCN gender studies.

This is nice for AMD but it's a shame that all of the juicy Pol 11 is going to Apple a la Tonga.
