You can upgrade the PCI-e SSDs on all the Retina MacBook Pros as well as the MacBook Airs (you just need to open the bottom panel, that's it). The memory is soldered but that's like any Windows ultrabooks. The entry level MacBook Pros, you can upgrade the memory and hard drive.
"Real" men don't care what kind of laptops they carry around. The only ones who care about and are critical of other user's preferences are virgins who are in to Japanese cartoons.

Tbf I'm a MBP user and the rMBP is really close to non-upgradable. The only thing you can replace is the PCIe SSD but they use a different key profile that doesn't like any standardized M.2 key so the only option you can find is another SSD that came from another rMBP or from OWC, which cost another fortune so..

At some point, if you intend to use a laptop in a public place.. It had BETTER BE a Macbook..

That's the end of the story.. since that is the ONLY laptop brand with Luxury (Expensive) reputation..

Yes, All of us at OCN knows better, but our technical knowledge is not representative of the AFK world view.. and the only question that matters is, will it get you laid..... biggrin.gif

By all means keep your lenovo x220s at home, you're probably the only person capable of appreciating it..

A. Who cares? Why does this matter?
B. I've had people compliment my HP Omen 2015. Did you read that? I said HP Omen 2015. aka NOT a Macbook.
C. 2/10 troll. Too obvious, used the opposite sex to present a laughably pitiful argument.

If you need to buy a Macbook to get laid, I have some bad news to tell you..............

No offense to you, but hp "omen" sounds like some try hard "look at me I'm a gamer" laptop. MacBooks may not get you laid, but those gamer laptops are definitely massive cockblocks. Wouldn't wanna be caught dead with one.

Those results are decent, I guess will have to just wait for the 1060m to be released, but if the rumors are true we'll have better than 970m performance which I highly doubt the 460m can match

What's the value of a rMBP 15 you bought for $2500 before taxes in 2014 today? $900? Lets say $1000. Hell, lets say $1200. Or you say w/e it really is, I really don't know, that's from a very fast ebay search. That's still ~50% depreciation from the price paid.

Would the resale value of a $1000-1200 PC that most likely will be just as fast (less stylish, no contest there) that you are replacing every 1y instead of 2y+ will be less than 50% of the original investment? I doubt it. You "lose" a comparable % of your original investment (I could argue less) and because you are often ending up with a slightly bigger machine than the MBP, the thermal envelope often allows it to be faster on day 1, and ofc much faster if the next year you get the new PC that will be a generation ahead of the MBP.

Even if % its a toss, the absulute $ invested and depreciated is more if you want to go for the styling and the premium feel of the MBP, much like with most luxury consumer products
These days almost everything in the PC world remotely as thin as a MBP and MBA offer very limited upgreadability, and a process not transparent to the end user...i.e. no easy to access hatches etc...you have to crack open the metal case, pretty much like you would with a mobile phone, and at best you will be able to upgrade a M.2 drive or change the battery.

You're severely underestimating MacBook resale value and overestimating pc laptop resale value. A 2014 rMBP 15 with 750M was going for around $2500, now it still routinely sells on ebay for $1500. 40% deprecation is pretty good for a 2 year old laptop. OTOH a 2014 Alienware 17 that went for $3400 new just sold on ebay for $900. A whopping 74+% depreciation.
When Apple was still under SJ and routinely updating their CPU/GPU with the latest and greatest every year, I was upgrading my MBP for only a 15% or so loss per year. PC laptops depreciate sometimes by 50% in 1 year.

Does that honestly have the appearance of a "look at me I'm a gamer" laptop?

How about now?

Again, if you're worried what the opposite sex thinks of you because of your choice of laptop, I have some bad news...........

I wish the hell I would buy a laptop JUST to impress women. L-O-L

Tbh, I've been thinking of buying one to use strictly for music production/DJ'ing, and depending on the condition, they can still sell for $1,600 on eBay. Refurbished units from Apple are priced so high you might as well buy a new one (albeit with a smaller SSD). Macbooks hold their value, unless it's from 2012 or older, and even then a lot of the old 15" MBP models are still going for over a grand, and that's for a laptop Apple doesn't even make anymore.

Oh god this thread, discussing what laptop will get you more women :lachen:

Gentlemen, if women judge you by your laptop, you are in the completely wrong place with the completely wrong women.
