Eh, if a product was designed to compete with the i7 6700K, that's what it should be compared to, regardless of the amount of cores. The Zen chip being displayed here has the same TDP as the 6700K, leading us to believe that's what it's competing against. Not X99 CPUs.

That's an easy one. It's from AMD.

Nope. You should compare it to the current gen and it's equivalently priced product. If it's priced at 350-ish, that would be the 6700K. If it's more like 250-ish, it would be 6600K.
And if AMD pops an 8 or 16 core with decent performance, it might just compete as well with X99.

Either way, I hope AMD undercuts Intel by a lot for the same performance and brings down Intel's monopoly pricing.

This is what hurts AMD. People assume everything AMD markets will be dirt cheap and a good value when that is simply not the case. The company cannot afford to continue to price things at bottom dollar. The 9590 wasn't a good value, the 8120 let alone 8150 were not good values...

AMD can't afford to price a 8c16t as cheap as they do the FX line. If AMD suddenly pulled a A64 again (which unfortunately isn't in the cards it seems so far) Intel can easily price match. AMD cannot afford a price war.

Oh, so they're doing the same thing they've been doing since their CPUs went to hell?

This is the unfortunate thing indeed. I on the other hand don't want something cheap. i'm willing to pay for quality. At this performance level, I'd expect a price somewhere around the $300 mark.

I don't think they've made enough of a jump to be able to have a 91w TDP chip compete with a 140w TDP chip, regardless of core count and thread count. So as depressing as it sounds, yeah... I guess they are doing the same thing they've been doing. Unless the pricing proves otherwise (which I doubt it will)

All the tests are so close is within margin of error, Haswell - Skylake for gaming doesn't matter but certain situations outside that Skylake will shine a bit brighter

The issue is just more than it being way too overpriced at launch, it's that its inevitable price fall over time that makes their brand perception poor. I'm tired of this broken record with them. This CPU needs to launch with better price to performance than intel and not just equal to in niche scenarios.

Don't you sass me with your fanboy garbage either, I'm 100% right.

Agreed. It needs to be priced $50 to $70 less than whatever Intel CPU it matches, imo. they can put a real price on the things when they get some market share back and design wins, thus MONEY and R & D leading to even better CPU's. Right now they have to claw back the market. That means value pricing and hopefully good yields for lots of stock. I'll buy it no matter what as long as it performs within 10% my current intel chip(faster or slower idc) but it needs to appeal to people sitting on the fence and people upgrading that lok for value.

Idk what they were thinking prioritizing core count over IPC and frequency. For most users, they (read: the applications they're using) wouldn't be taking advantage of that many cores. Surfing the net, email, Office, etc. mostly all lightweight. Probably why tablets are so popular.

Yea but those applications don't need a lot of performance to begin with in the first place... an athlon 64 x2 from 2005 is still more than capable for 99% of users out there doing what you said. Assuming it's paired with 4gb and a modern hdd or ssd.
