I'm in the same boat. If this thing ends up being equal to or beating an 8 core 16 thread Haswell CPU then it will be right up my alley (especially since the cost will be much lower than other comparable chips).

If this thing can overclock to high 4ghz even better. I'd love to see this thing at 5ghz+ under water.

If these ones are clocked at 2.8... I wouldn't hold my breath for 5, not even 4. If Polaris is any indication of overclocking (Which, to be fair, it shouldn't), I wouldn't expect much overclockability.

This is an engineering sample. This is about standard for engineering samples from the ones I've seen. This is honestly on the higher end of some engineering samples I've seen over the years.

Pfft, good luck finding a board for it, I've been searching for ages...

But yea, some pretty odd info flying around with those 2 samples...

Here's the one I'm using

Which can mean one of two things.

  1. The clock they're using is closer to the chip's potential clockspeed. (Less OC headroom, less efficiency)
  2. The max potential clockspeed is just higher.

Being a sceptic (And having been disappointed by misplaced enthusiasm for the potential clockspeed of Polaris), I'm inclined to lean towards the former.

There is no way in hell this chip won't go over 4ghz. There is literally a 0% chance that, that's the case.

I'm curious to know what you are basing this on. This is legitimate curiosity and not a snarky comment.

This is based off the fact that I have never seen an engineering sample be clocked anywhere near its limit. Also if they're saying these chips are going to be 40% faster than their previous chips then it will have to clock much higher.

This would be a first if it can't go much higher than its engineering sample.

I thoroughly hope you're right. I need an excuse, ANY excuse to move away from Nvidia and Intel. They've served me very well in the past, but their recent antics have driven me away as a customer.

Could someone please post screenshots of 6900K vs 5960x vs Zen and see how they compare?
All three are 8-cores.
