Well technically if you analyze the information, this isn't exactly what we want to see. If this is an 8C16T CPU as it shows and it is having trouble competing with a Haswell 4C8T at these current ES clocks. We can only hope that finalized clocks are closer to 3.6GHz to at least have it more competitive with an Intel 4 Core 8 Thread.

At that point it should perform a lot better than we see right now. That should give us at least a 10% increase in performance which would bring us to around 64 fps which would mean it would be around that 4790 performance. Then of course as enthusiasts we should be able to overclock it further but seeing how 14nm panned out for the RX 480 I wouldn't expect amazing overclocks on these chips.

Maybe to 4.0GHz or so. So that is another 9% increase in performance at least. So that should bring us to around 70 fps.

But in the end that only brings us to about overclocked 4770k performance or stock 4790k performance:

Now if this 8 core 16 thread Zen CPU is priced the same as a 4C8T Intel i7 then indeed this will be a very competitive chip for the money because it will be more than fine for gaming and great for productivity.

Here's to hoping Zen can OC well, and not be like Polaris 10. Which, I'm more worried for.

But, if 2.8GHz is fast enough to match a 3.6GHz i7, assuming AOTS caps at 4C/4T, then we may have another Athlon 64 on our hands where the A64 was able to match and beat an Intel Pentium of higher clock speed. I know, we aren't in the same era anymore, but still.

although considering lower clocks, it's not bad.

no no, I'm responsible for the 1.6 number. We burried all sorts of believable twaddle in a thread here months ago to see if those sites were just regurgitating our speculations.

I'm hoping this is the 6c/12t

if it can't at least match a 3rd gen old intel model then i won't be impressed.

as you can see after 6cores there is a very sharp decline in scaling.

I want to hope so too as that would be much more compelling, but I do not believe that is the case:

I want good single core perfomance. Does that mean Zen will be useless to me? No time to read through all of the pages atm ._.

8 Cores with HT and barely faster then FX which is not true 8 Core and ancient.

Ahh i completely missed that

Well i think the scaling past 6 cores isn't great so my exceptions are

6c/12t will match a haswell 4c/8t i think

Now actual IPC i think it could just be 10% shy of haswell for some tasks and match it in others

Since we can't really tell exact performance from a game

why hasn't this guy ran some cinebench or something yet

I would personally love to see some sort of handbrake benchs thumb.gif

an 8core that's supposed to come out in a year can't match a 4core from 2 years ago? please tell me this is a joke

Do we have comparisons that use same version of benchmark and same GPU/drivers for all CPUs? Because right now the variables to consider are just too many.
