Have you seen the modding part of our community? Pretty much why I joined. You can get performance and looks.

Just because I don't post there doesn't mean I don't frequent it. The reason I don't mod myself is because I'm not adventurous (and wealthy) enough.

How would you afford this ugly but beastly performance Xpoint SSD then? It's not going to be relatively affordable for a while and by then, someone will come out with a performance + decent industrial design just like how other PCIE SSDs have come out. .

I never said I was intending to buy this. This isn't a consumer product, this is a database product that is still in engineering phase and once it's released it will be aimed at users such as Google, Facebook (I'm guessing as Google still use tape due to price per TB), governments and the military.

Intel itself said Xpoint & Optane will be for gamers too. Yes, at first, because of price, it'll be for Enterprise but eventually Prosumer variants will come out and then Enthusiast variants. RapidIO is used in military, aviation, NASA, etc for interconnects. Since this is PCIE, it'll come to us as well sooner rather than later I believe.

200GB 300 dollars? smile.gif

PCper.com

"These are the performance figures from an U.2 device with a PCIe 3.0 x4 link. Note the outstanding ramp up to full saturation of the bus at a QD of only 4."

But honestly, in this instance and for this device, no one should care for it's looks. It's an evolution in tech, not art, the looks can come later especially as this is a ES prototype, it probably has several extra boards, chips and access points for debugging, diags and outputs so they can tweak and monitor the actual tech.

Also consider this isn't a product. The looks of a product can/do matter. This isn't a product.

My 2 cents.

Built on a FPGA board for a reason once outa prototype stage they can finalize a design for the company's releasing g them like intel's blue/silver scheme or Kingston hyper fury X black/red Asus red dipped in poo. These are basically just proof of concept that they can make this tech work.

Look at first aeroplane first car ugly but it evolved into beauty. Like camera.vipers, ferrari, or B52 blackbirds F22 Raptors F18s amazing tech wrapped in works of art.
