Dual 40x40mm Peltier/TEC unit for waterloop

Hello fellow overclockers

This is my first post so be gentle :-)

I want to use peltiers to lower the temperature of my cpu + radiator watercooling loop.

Im building a second separate waterloop using a 240 radiator to cool 2 x peltiers ( i have spare pumps and other parts).
These peltiers will be located on each side of a center water block, with the peltier cool side facing center.
On the hot side of the peltiers i will attach a waterblock plus a heatsink and fan.

Its like a sandwich with the dual-cooled waterblock in the middle.
The idea is for the center water block to enter my existing cpu + radiator loop.

Can someone

1. Give an estimate regarding the efficiency of this build ?
2. Comment on whether the peltiers to weak to make an efficient reduction in temperature,
3. Tell me if the planned cooling of the hot side will be enough

Many thanks in advance.

TEC chillers can work...but you would need much better blocks, much bigger TECs, and there is no need for fans on waterblocks (not sure if you just wanted to stick fans on top of the waterblock itself?).

Also, you do not want radiator in a chiller loop since they will be heating the chilled coolant - counter productive.

Thx for the reply Puck

Actually i was reading 4Ryan6's build yesterday, which explained exactly what you were saying.

Think he was using two 253watt TEC (im not sure aboit the excact wattage).

Also no radiator and we must insulate reservoir (2 liters).

Ill be ditching the watercool idea for the TEC and using air instead.

Any rexomendations for:
Air cooler
TEC wattage(its a 95w tdp i7 860, which will be overclocked)
Waterblock to oick up the vold from TEC

Cheers Toe

What OC can your 860 do, and what are your goals? If you can estimate its overclocked heat output, you can more carefully spec the TEC to reach your desired temp...whether that be just a 10c drop from watercooling, slightly below ambient to prevent condensation, or a full out build with sub zero coolant.

When using air coolers for chillers, you can't use just one since the cooler will have a hard time with a TEC large enough to get the job done. Instead, you are better off using 2-3 and running them at lower volts then rated. Each one will be much easier to cool, and when you run chillers together you can easily scale up your cooling potential thumb.gif.

For a single TEC, you need a single large one and at that point direct die may be the better choice vs a chiller loop.
