WD Black 1TB 1003FZEX vibrates like crazy

I'm going to send my drive for repairs, because it vibrates. A lot. My Fractal Design Define R5 is vibrating like crazy and emits strong buzzing sound: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gXP2hdeX8H6GsHw8ElVRk6GgjZ_azrfeSg/view?usp=sharing
Also I noticed when I gently shake HD I can hear and feel something moving inside. Because I can feel it though entire construction I am convinced it is disc inside. Which would explain the intense vibrations coming from drive.
Another thing is the sound it makes. Is this how it's suppose to sound? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gBFxR4GU5kv3-ZRgKEegcd1ZLi6yzJUmTw/view?usp=sharing

I just need confirmation that this isn't how this drive should behave in case my reseller decides to reject my warranty claim.

Hi @Terepin!

Since the drive is causing such a vibration then it will be best to RMA it back. I don't think that you'd have a problem with that, but just in case, you can run a diagnostic check on the HDD with the manufacturer tool Data Lifeguard Diagnostics and see if anything wrong will be detected by the program. Here's a link where you can download the software:

Hope this helps and let me know how it went. smile.gif

Checked and it showed nothing. Anyway, I will buy silencer because buying SSD for gaming would too much for me.

probably a metal hard drive mounted to a metal case sound and not a defect.

That or a head crash...sounds like something is hitting, getting stuck then is rubbing in there...which is head crash, if it is id avoid turning it on anymore but if software shows nothing wrong which it would then it's probably how it's mounted.

Hello, based on 1st video I would say the vibrating noise come from the front panel. The plastic and how it is fixed to the metal case will do that kind of sound.
I was annoyed by the same kind of noise until i figured out it was the front panel. My case is a nanoxia, which has a front panel very similar to fractal.
If there is one or two fan on it, the noise can be more irritating. Vibrations transmitted by hdd to the case can be reduced with rubber, but between the hdd cage, their sliders where you put hdd on ( also metal or plastic), any little space will multiply the feeling and sound of vibrations..

As MightyMiroWD, use a diagnostic tool if you think the HDD is faulty , but with both videos you put on, it doesn't sound like a hdd defect.

Try tightening the screws on the HDD tray.

Good point. Even toolless trays usually have a place on the sides to put in a screw to lock it into the tray so the drive can't rattle in it. However, even that might not help if the tray is loose in the cage (wedging something between the tray and case might take up any slack). I have three WD Blacks (two 2TB and one 4TB) screwed directly into a cage—no trays—and I have no trouble with HDD noise.
