Minimum GPU requirements for extreme HQ Minecraft?

It's been my dream to run a x512 resource pack with extreme shaders and parallax mapping. Does anyone have any suggestions for the minimum GPU needed to run this smoothly? I'd guess around 4gb of VRAM would be necessary. My processor is definitely good enough.

Sorry if this isn't posted in the appropriate section.

EDIT:I got a Nvidia GTX 980 and I've never been happier. Running a x512 resource pack (realistico) with ultra shaders and parallax mapping, I'm getting about 30fps. Obviously I've toned down some of it but it looks like I've found the minimum for me.

I've played with 512x packs before but ive never delved that deep into the modding because the game can get ungodly unstable when pushed to its limits. though it has been well over a year since i did so and things have probably changed, I'd say at least a gtx 960 4gb or a amd 270x ( i believe thats amd's equivalent to the 960 but im not sure, though if going amd i would just recommend the rx 480 ) next biggest thing is ram and 8gb is the bare minimum and give 6gb to minecraft, minecraft is a ram whore lol. hope this helps a bit

Thank that helps! Unfortunately with Minecraft, a majority of the players are kids who don't know what VRAM is. I'll definitely look into an 8gb video card.

Modded MC doesn't really take VRAM, you run out of horsepower well before VRAM. You need a damn good CPU and RAM combo, the GPU is there to just run stuff. You'll also run out of RAM in software if you don't increase the java limit.

No no lol, 8gb of system memory, for video card a 4gb card is plenty, minecraft loves system memory, not vram lol. sure the shaders and such use some vram but minecraft in itself abuses system ram so the more you can give it the better your mods will run, if at all after a point lol.

Really? I have 8gb of RAM in my iMac (my dad got a new iMac so he gave me his from 2011, don't judge), originally 4gb but I found some extra RAM. I've been giving it up to 6GB of RAM and it hasn't been making a difference with a x512 resource pack. I've always heard the opposite, that it doesn't matter how much RAM you have, it's all VRAM and the processor.

Once i built my new system in my sig rig (6 core i6 GTX 1080) first thing i tried was an ultra high def game of minecraft. Runs terrible lol at 4k with x512 textures lol.

Are we talking Forge modded Minecraft or vanilla with textures?

No matter how much RAM I allocate to Minecraft, it won't run x512 packs.. they'll just come up as white cubes. I already have 90% of a computer built, I just need a video card for it. I'm just not sure how much I should spend/need.

Well Forge modded but I'm really only running Optifine and JourneyMap as mods.

EDIT: I just compared the two. Same exact location and everything. There is no noticeable difference between Forge (Optifine + JourneyMap) and just Optifine itself. I was running an x256 texture pack and lite shaders. Got 20-21 FPS, turning around was the same.. dipped down to about 17-19 while turning.
