[Motley Fool] NVIDIA Corporation's Volta Rumored to Be a Monster

High performance, significantly revamped architecture
According to a translation of USG Ishimura's post, the performance of GV104 -- the Volta-based successor to the recently released GP104 chip (which powers the GeForce GTX 1070 and GeForce GTX 1080 graphics cards) -- will offer "really strong" performance.

This performance enhancement, the user indicates, is due to the fact that the "sm structure [has] changed" relative to the prior-generation Pascal architecture (in NVIDIA's graphics architecture, "SM" is short for "streaming multiprocessor."

According to USG Ishimura, NVIDIA is actually planning not two, but three high-end gaming graphics processors based on Volta this time around: GV104, GV110, and GV102.

Very interesting...

$2,000 card in coming in no time. The day it happens. I am done with PC gaming and Nvidia can stick it along with the rest of the PC market.

Coming from someone who knows nothing about semiconductor manufacturing. Lol

I said it before.
This is the reason why Nvidia pushed out Titan X right after 1080.

They are prepping for Volta launch maybe already in 2017.
Pascal is more of a Maxwell 2.0 with really high clocks due to a process that supports it.
Volta is the next real architecture after Maxwell

I only know what i've learned in my Electronic Devices course, but i can assume as channel widths get smaller and smaller, the manufacturing processes get insanely complex and electrons start going places they aren't supposed to due to some quantum effects that don't follow the standard model of semiconductors. You can only get transistors so small and so close to each other before things start getting screwy. Then as the die gets bigger and bigger, you'll need good yields in order for the chip to be useful.

While i'm sure nvidia is getting their piece of the pie, prices for processors with more and more transistors will go up. Transistor sizes are going to hit their limit before 2020 and were going to need another breakthrough. But it is worth saying this is just entirely my speculation based on some limited knowledge in the subject.

Edit: Also i was kind of responding to the person you quoted LOL. I am agreeing with you codejunki. I just realized that didn't seem very clear.
