Windows 7 Update Center Blues

Greetings OC.net-ers

I have a problem that has been growing more and more annoying over the last several months. Has anyone noticed recently that on fresh installs of Windows 7 (Pro 64 Bit OEM in this case) that the update center takes a decade to find updates??? So far I have had like 6 or 7 PC's in the last several weeks & months that just don't want to update. The Windows Update troubleshooter tool is absolutely useless in this case. I have tried the trick where you stop the update service then restart it but it seems that recently that has not been cutting it. I am really scratching my head on this one. I have dealt with this issue before but it was almost always Ethernet driver not letting the Windows update service not communicate correctly or its been something stupid like that...but this is different. I have tried different Ethernet cables, forced the updates, killed processes & reran as an admin...all to no avail. I have researched the issue too and so far I haven't had any luck with that either.

Thank you in advance

Kyle G

Sorry but I am having trouble rotating the picture. Stupid work computer doesn't have the correct editing software I normally use.

+1

WSUS makes updates much easier, especially if you are stuck with the bugged update that makes a "svchost.exe" use a full CPU thread and constantly try to download updates. This in turn prevents actual Windows updates from checking for updates properly.

My solution is to simply run WSUS and download all Windoes udpates, transfer that to the machine giving you issues, then disable networking on the machine you want to update and just keep running the "update.cmd" as administrator in the client folder of WSUS until it has no updates left to do. Then you can re-enable networking and Windows updates should be working as usual.

Manually download KB3168965 and KB3177725 for either x86 or x64 and install. Your updates should then show up much faster.
