[builld log] - Icarus - Lian Li PC V359 custom gaming/htpc

Seems I just finished my define nano S build when I come across something on the internet that has me ordering all new stuff to make a new build.

I saw this Lian Li PC V359 build over on reddit, which I thought looked fantastic
http://imgur.com/a/s3ajN

Ive been wanting to try hard line so I figured I would go all in and try and take that build even further.

My plan is to do hard line tubing, but since the PC359 is a completely modular case, I will also be replacing the front and side panels with custom smoked gray acrylic panels.

I've only used sketchup so far, and have also just started using the software yesterday, but I found a bunch of premade models in their library of representative components. I think the layout will look something like this:

3/4

top

front

side

I like the idea of a dual reservoir build, and think it could look cool with the mayhems pastel yellow in there. Alternatively, I am considering putting a big thick reservoir mounted horizontally across the front panel, but I wonder if the view through the sides might be too plain if there isn't much else to see besides radiator and pump/PSU from that angle.

Parts (mostly all salvaged from my existing htpc and desktop):
Case: Lian Li PC V359
i5 6600k
GTX 1080
ASUS Z170i gaming ITX motherboard
Corsair SF600 SFX PSU
SSD
16gb corsair vengeance 3600mhz ddr4

Water Cooling Equipment
2x Hardware Labs Nemesis GTS 240
5x Noctua ppc 2000rpm pwm fans
XSPC raystorm cpu block
EK 1080 gpu block
EK HDC fittings
EK PETG tubing
Aquacomputer Aqualis Eco 100 res (likely to be replaced w/ something else)
Swiftech MCP35X pump w/ bitspower clear top

Everything will have arrived on Tuesday so I will hopefully get started then and start figuring out what possibilities exist for tubing layout that will look good. I'm planning on visiting the plastics place the following week for the custom panels.

I'm the creator and owner of the inspiration build 😂. Really awesome to see it inspires someone else for a build in this awesome case!

I will definitely follow this, since I quite dig the idea for the transparent sides!

I was at Home Depot this morning and saw .09" acrylic for dirt cheap. The Lian Li panel mounting slots are .06" thick but that should be easy to overcome right? rolleyes.gif

I used a plastic knife, dremel, sandpaper, and file for the below. I guess lets just call it a proof of concept. I ended up putting in an order at the local plastics place, hopefully they do better than I could manage smile.gif

Making progress with the rest of the acrylic I have.

I rigged up a mini mill cutter with my dremel in the garage to grind down the edges of the panels. It turned out pretty good this time, although I ended up fusing some melted acrylic to the sanding guide on the dremel :/

The local plastics place didn't do a great job with the side panels, and 1/16 acrylic just felt a little flimsy.

So I tried DIY again, this time with a jigsaw and an acrylic blade. I also used lexan instead of acrylic. The lexan made a big difference, as did the jigsaw. Where acrylic wanted to melt almost instantly it felt like the lexan cut cleanly instead. I got some .09" thick lexan and ground down the edges to fit the mounting slots with my dremel and sanding wheel.

The cuts for the radiators aren't perfect unfortunately as I couldn't really get a cutting guide in place for all the angles. There is also some overcut. That said, it looks really good with the radiator mounted and you would have a hard time seeing the imperfections from even a foot or two away.

Now it's time to figure out internal layout. The dual reservoir layout I put together in sketch up will be impossible due to the motherboard tray supports.

Ok final update for a bit. I think this thing is going to work.
I lost the long mounting screws from one of my radiators so I need to get some more at the hardware store tomorrow, but there are two more noctua "hornet" waiting to be mounted.

I can already tell that cabling this thing up is going to be a pain. It's a shame I ordered my cablemod cables for the nano s case before beginning this project. Anyone know if it is relatively easy to trim sleeved cables?

Also, with ek hdc fittings, how am I supposed to tighten them to the devices, do I need a tool or is finger tight good enough? Is it just the force of screwing the compression part over the tube that gets it tight enough against the device?

I loosely assembled everything to start thinking about potential tubing layout. I'm not thrilled with the reservoir I currently have (aquacomputer aqualis 100) in this case so I ordered a plexi alphacool 150ml to replace it. I think I may mount the new one horizontal across the bottom of the case and somewhat hide the pump in the back left.
