GTX 1080 EVGA FTW - Page 2

Thread Starter
Ok, thanks for the suggestions so far. I've already tried them with the old mobo, but then my buddy just found some time to come over with his new rig and we tried his i7-6800K CPU in my new PC and everything worked fine without even changing anything in the UEFI settings or even touching anything on the new mobo. cheers.gif

Seems like the beep code was kinda right after all and it was actually a bad CPU error, only thing I don't understand is why everything seemed to work with the GTX580?
My guess, something is faulty with the CPUs PCIe-Lanes that causes it to somehow work with the legacy GTX580, but not with the GTX1080.
If someone knows what could cause this, I would greatly appreciate the info since I'm still curious what caused this unusual malfunction.

But atleast I now know what I have to replace to make my rig finally work. biggrin.gif

That's quite interesting that swapping the CPU did the trick. Must be bad lanes, as you say. Perhaps since the 580 uses PCIE gen 2, it places less load on the lanes. However, you'd think that it'd either work completely or not at all--not just work at one PCIE mode setting but not the other.

So just to make sure, you already tried forcing your mobo to use PCIE gen 2 on the 1080, and that did nothing? If that's the case, then I am completely lost as to why your CPU works only with 580 and your buddy's CPU works with both cards.

Yes, I have tried forcing the PCIe gen. 2.0 with no success. The weird thing is my buddy just called and told me that when he reinstalled the CPU in his rig (same mobo model as mine) it worked fine until he formatted his SSD. Now he has the same POST beep code that I had. rolleyes.gif

I am starting to believe again, that something might be wrong with the mobo model/series (GA-X99-Ultra Gaming) in general. Maybe compatibility issues, since it's a rather new model and a brand new series, which I haven't heard of before? I know Gigabyte has had the G1 Gaming series, the Ultra Durable series and the OC/SOC series. This is the first mb (including it's Z170 counterpart) that seems to be a combination from the G1 Gaming series and the Ultra Durable series in the name. (I know that many Gigabyte motherboards have the "Insist on Ultra Durable"-logo, but haven't seen it in the actual label name of the series.)
I'm interested in your and everyone else's opinion or guess on this matter.

Thanks again, for all the guys trying to help with this unusual issue. smile.gif
