I have noticed the change for a while now. I was under the impression they were getting away from the laptop naming since alot of them actually get to hot to rest on your lap comfortably. I could never use my blade on my lap while gaming without a cooling pad of some sort.

Additionally things like netbook came around cuase they were very low key machines for browsing the web and stuff.

I'm praying for a blade stealth with a 1060 but I don't see it happening since it will kill the core.

Edit: Also as far as APIs go 460 will be faster then 1050 under Vulkan.

Not necessarily.

The best AMD gets under vulkan is basically their TF roughly being equal to Nvidia TF and that's using a monster CPU.

The 1050 should have 2.1 tflops in laptop form if the 1060m clocks are anything to go on.

That's basically what the desktop variant of the rx460 gets. The rx460 is a 75 watt chip and will need to be a 35 watt chip for mainstream laptops. Thus..

The rx460 performance in mobile form is going to be clocked around 1ghz to 1.05ghz(based on undervolting and underclocking tests). This is 1.79tflop - 1.88tflops. What this means is the mobile rx460 is going to get wrecked in directx 11 titles by 40-50% and in vulkan titles, by 10-15%.

Polaris simply isn't competitive compared to Pascal. AMD is likely paying a penalty to apple in regards to their contract. AMD likely showed inflated performance per watt claims to apple, which landed them the contract in the first place, but completely under delivered. This can lead to steep penalties. They are likely getting these chips at cost, because so far, polaris showing in performance per watt isn't much different than maxwell which is not good considering Pascal is here.

I am pretty sure they are going to use full Polaris 11 chips on MBP.

I think many of us are pissed is that we're paying Apple + Nvidia Taxes and only getting AMD with 50% less performance for the same power usage. Polaris is the Faildozer of GPU's with overhype and underdeliver when a new 14nm process is giving us 28nm Maxwell power usage/performance which is paramount over price/performance as in the Desktop space where the 470/480 are decent.

A refreshed kaby lake XPS 15 with 1050ti/1060 is going to be my first non-Apple laptop after 10 years.

I need a new laptop and a new blade or xps 15 witha 1070 would be sweet. Even a 1060 would do well.

If they can put the 1060 in a 14" or smaller platform i'm jumping on it. Hopefully lenovo or alienware try to do so.

Awesome. Bit steep in price but considering all this just released it's not surprising. I think given some time it will come down to 1200ish. Or if Lenovo would just do what they do and sacrifice some build quality so i could grab it at 1000$ or so. Somehow i doubt they put a 1060 in their 14" we'll just have to see.

There's probably some bestbuy version of some 1060 laptop waiting in the wings. $1500 was a bit higher than I expected, but the 1060 is close enough to the laptop full 980 that was in ~$3k laptops for the last few months that I'd not appreciate the financial hit.

The price is not low enough on the 1060 laptops IMHO, the only reason to get one is for the thinner body IMHO.

The 1070 seems like the way better deal and they arent a lot bigger (the laptops for them)
