.

D0, but why should I pay more since I'm getting 60+ frames and GPU is 99% ?

My 3770k at 4.6Ghz and 2133Mhz CL9 RAM are a minor bottleneck for my 1070 at 1080p in some games, so I am having a very hard time with the idea that a 920 is letting a 1070 stretch its legs.

Could you please give me these games so I can try it

Where is the bottleneck if I can see the GPU is 99% utilized. Please share you knowledge

The main idea behind this subject that you can still get 60+ fps with old CPU where in BF4 ULTRA I can get 130 fps +. So why Do i need to have new MBO and CPU !! So this is the point of my subject.

I have no doubt that your 920 at 4.2Ghz is enough to drive a lot of games at 1080p/60, but I do still strongly believe that you would see significant boosts in overall FPS if you paired your 1070 with a faster chip.

The games where my 3770k is not quite enough to keep my 1070 pegged at full utilization are as follows:

BF4 64 player Conquest servers
Battleborn
GTA V SP and MP
DOOM 2016 (bottleneck is greatly reduced while using the Vulkan API, however)

These are the only games I have tested so far; all at 1080p. Obviously the 1070's usage remains at a more consistent 99% while I use 2560x1440 and above via DSR, but I am using 1920x1080 as a baseline.

Maintaining 60+ FPS is great and all, but that does not necessarily mean that there is no situation where your 920 is holding your 1070 back from achieving its maximum performance output.

I am glad that you are happy with the performance you are getting out of your 920, I really am. I am just making the point that your 1070 has a lot of performance to offer at 1080p that your CPU might not be able to keep up with in a few existing and upcoming games.

I think X58 is still a good gaming platform. And I'm still on an old GPU.

For Sure It will bottleneck specially with modern multiplayer games like Battlefield 4 , in addition to you running your GTX 1070 at pci 2.0 , I think this is the time upgrade your legacy CPU For something like 6700K

Why should he upgrade if he's happy with the game he plays.

Wait until you're not satisfied then upgrade.

A 6 core in that thing and Vulkan or DX 12 should be more than enough

Your card is running on native mode (MSI) ? Because in some x58 with new cards runs on legacy pci express endpoint, check in your device administrator > PCI-Express root complex.
If is running on legacy use this utility http://www.mediafire.com/download/hrxw4rsb9xnw1ei/MSI_util.zip

my MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X is getting along really good with my i7 970 6 core non over clocked cpu. all my games at max settings, even Doom on Vulkan, no bottleneck that I can see.
I have very smooth game play at good fps over 60, some games over 100fps.
I just love the X58 platform. built mine in 2010, I'm even running the 2010 bios version.
