I didn't want to kill all my background items, but you get an idea
I haven't a clue what he is doing.

I surely do!
If this benchmark is for real, then your graphics card performs at a bit over 50% of its real CUA (Coefficiency of Useful Action), or otherwise said this motherboard + CPU is slowing the SH-- down of your graphics card! Which sadly is a waste of your money!

Your benchmark shows G3D result of 6339, but the card is rated in top 5 from over 600k cards at 11536 G3D result out of 5044 samples.
So this is a real example of what the folks before me were talking about.

The outdated CPU + Motherboard make the highly priced graphics cards a waste!

I wasn't aware you were one of the people that think you need a 5960X or 6800K to game on...

The only game I have less than awesome performance is WoW which is a Intel bias game, everyone knows that. It was made on an Game Engine that likes 1 or 2 high speed, high IPC cores.

I can run, BF4, GTA V, Division, Crysis 3, No Man Sky, Just Cause 3 and others with no problem. In fact, in games like The Division, GTA V and Crysis 3, my 980Ti is holding me back. How do i know? Turning down Graphics options nets me more FPS, so it's NOT a CPU Bottleneck. /thread

Of course not wink.gif

Your Ti is holding you back?? biggrin.gifthumb.gif
What's the FPS in Crysis 3 and GTA V with max settings?

What do you call CPU/PCI-E communication inability to render extra details?

Can you make a screenshot of your MSI Afterburner during game play? I'd love to see that screenshot.

It's pretty known by now that pretty much every upgrade from sandy bridge is almost 100% useless, i myself am keeping my 2600k for long, seen how useless and what waste of money upgrading would be

His post is about his supposedly enough Nehalem (I guess), not a Sandy Bridge, but his point and your point are those CPU are stil enough to play...

Seems there's two issues about that. First, some here have shown older CPU are actually bottlenecks. Thus, the GTX 1070 is considered a waste of money, because it won't alleviate FPS falls.

I think the actual question we can ask OP is (among apparent violation of the OCN chart about his website) "are you SUR you don't feel any framerate falls?" because when you actually test another rig with a faster CPU... I promise you actually feel it, whatever the theorical and technical gains.

first gen core i7 should be called bloomfield if im not mistaken, but whatever, yes, the point is that, which is the increase in performance isn't worth the money, pretty much, i was looking at some bf4 benchmarks few weeks ago, there was a difference literally of 4 fps between my cpu and the latest i7 series, now, i don't really know about drops, because they don't show in benchmarks, but these drops need to be quantified, are these drops that relevant? If they are and you can clearly see them, you can't play properly then ok, the money is surely worth

I guess in a real world scenario, if you don't see any performance issue, going from a 560ti to a gtx 1070 is worth it, if not the best way to get the most of it. Hell, I've even felt the upgrade from an i5 4679k to a Xeon 1231v3 (sounds like a stupid upgrade, but I got it for free), but it was mainly because I had a GTX 770 when I did that swap (still couldn't max out The Witcher 3, but it was running better overall, less framerate drops)

Still, if I were the OP, I would start putting money aside to go full Kaby-Lake of Zen in 2017... That would be a hell of an upgrade, as you would get DDR4, less watt consumption, have USB 3.0 and 3.1, SATA III and m.2 or u.2 ports to maximize your SSD use...

Or get a second-hand H97-Z97 plateform if broke but in need of more RAM or SATAIII / m.2 capabilities, that would be cheaper.

A good chunk of the higher IPC of newer Intel CPUs is the higher stock clocks, so a first gen i7 920 @ 4.2ghz is something I'd expect to support a 1070.

...I wouldn't be surprised to find a Q9650/qx9770/Xeon-equivalent at or around 4Ghz to still do the job.

Now this sounds interesting, i might do this too, but in this case too, would more for the sake of upgrading a 5 yrs old pc than anything else, and i would see very little difference anyway
