Worth overclocking this 5930K?

Thread Starter
I've condensed my 2 boxes into one and sold off the rest, and this being my everyday (critical) system is it worth trying to squeeze out additional FPS with an overclock? Currently its running via MCE @ 3.7GHz across all cores on load. Mobo is an Asrock X99 Extreme 4 with a Noctua NH-U14S and a Strix OC 1070.

Still using this IPS 1200p/60p Dell monitor. Not interested currently in going beyond to 1600p. Will overclocking really improve FPS enough? Stock 2133MHz DDR4 too. Aiming for a locked 60PFS Vysnc'd.

You probably won't see a large increase in FPS from overclocking your CPU as most likely the 1070 isn't limited by your CPU, but you can see a 8 - 10% performance increase in FPS by overclocking your GPU.

I mean... might as well just OC it and see right? I'm running at 4.5ghz 24/7 stable

Tried a base Auto OC 4.0GHz profile which locked up even at 1.2v. Reminded me of when I tried fiddling with this setup last year. Chip looks like a dud. If anything I'll wait until a hexa-core is released that can clock over 4.0GHz out of the box.

lol... if you're not going to put any effort into it why bother?

Might just be your motherboard anyway.
