0198: System Security - Unauthorized BIOS update attempted.

Thread Starter
Ok, so I bought an IBM Think Center off Ebay and Bios had a password on it, so I pulled out the CMOS battery for 60 seconds to hopefully reset the password - bad idea aparently.

Now on start up it's saying
"ERROR
0162: Configuration Error - Default configuration used
ERROR
0198: System Security - Unauthorized BIOS update attempted.
ERROR
0197: System Security - Unauthorized SMOS change detected"

Unauthorized? It's authorized because I say it's authorized! Damnit!

Anyway, the bloke on Ebay said he lost the cmos password, so now I need some help...

Anyway, I can't turn on the computer without putting in a password and saving, which I can't do because I have no password, so what can I do? I'm almost on my way to buying a new motherboard....
(This was posted in Intel General, and sorry for double posting but I think this is the place the thread should be...)

Is it a laptop or desktop? If you have a laptop, chances are that the eBay seller scammed you because it's known by many that you will have hard times recovering the password.

Problem solved, after hours of trawling the internet I came up with a pretty vage post that said there was a set of jumpers to clear the chip with all the security passwords (http://www.mail-archive.com/twinclin.../msg00051.html) After searching the mobo I found 1 jumper with no jumpercap on it. So anyway, gave it a shoot and it came up with all the above error messages and.... "All passwords and security settings have been cleared"

Me: 1, IBM: 6 hours of wasted time, but still, 0
