Odd question regarding feature of Samsung SSD feature and motherboard feature.

This is an odd one, hoping someone had some thoughts. Wasn't sure to post here or in a different category, sorry about that.

I just purchased 2 Samsung 850 Evo SSDs. For those familiar, the software includes the Samsung Rapid feature that can be enabled for one of the drives.

My motherboard is an ASRock 970A-G/3.1 (link below). ASRock motherboards include a feature called XFast RAM (essentially a RAMDISK). I have been using this feature prior to buying these 850 Evos, even though I was already using a SSD as my OS drive (much lower end SSD than the Evo).

I have 16gb RAM currently in my system. I had 4gb dedicated to the XFast RAM. It did actually show a noticeable performance gain in certain applications.

My question is: Does anyone know if I can use both the Xfast RAM feature AND the Samsung Rapid feature? I am much less familiar with the Rapid feature, so I'm scratching my head here.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

The RAPID mode feature only helps in certain scenarios over the caching windows already does (eg VMs).

Windows does the same things RAPID but with files. RAPID works on blocks. So with a large VM vdisk, RAPID might cache some of it, where Windows wouldn't.

There is some risk of data loss using volatile memory as cache.

The setup of RAMDisk + Rapid would probably result in files being constantly relocated from one place in RAM to another, which seems inefficient...

Thanks for the response. So are you suggesting I shouldn't use both, or suggesting maybe I shouldn't use either? Or suggesting only using one, and if so which one?

Sorry, ramdisks and SSD caching features like RAPID are completely new to me.
