[Gamers Nexus] Gears of War 4 PC Graphics Settings Detailed & Async Compute Support

...We've got an early look at Gears of War 4's known graphics settings, elevated framerate, async compute, and dynamic resolution support. Note that the Gears team has promised “more than 30 graphics settings,” so we'll likely see a few more in the finished product. Here are our photos of the graphics options menu
Quote:
Multi-GPU: Gears of War 4 will be a native DirectX 12 game as released on Microsoft's Unified platform. Multi-GPU will need to be enabled to support multiple graphics cards. We have not validated this officially, but it's likely that a multi-GPU toggle is indicative of MDA (multi-display adapter) support, similar to what's found in Ashes of the Singularity, as opposed to LDA (Linked Display Adapter) or LDA Explicit.

Async Compute: Enables asynchronous compute pipelines to improve GPU processing speed. Commands can be queued asynchronously (without reliance upon one another) in the same way that asynchronous web development impacts page loading (e.g. allowing scripts to execute in parallel, rather than sequentially). This will leverage dedicated hardware units and new architecture low-level algorithms to reduce burning cycles as assets load.

Gears of War 4 will also support what Creative Lead Chuck O'Shea says is an “elevated framerate.” It is presently our understanding that GoW4 will unlock its framerate to some degree, allowing scaling past 60FPS on PC. We will talk with the team more to learn more about graphics optimization.

We're also told that an in-game benchmark will be prepared for Gears of War 4, making for easier work running performance analysis.

Xbox Play Anywhere will also be supported, allowing Windows 10 copy holders to play the game on Xbox One.

Native DX12 from the ground up on PC? Not buying it for a second. In case I am wrong and they actually pull it off. I would be shocked. It should be the most jaw dropping game to look at on PC EVER!

talking about multi-GPU support and unlocked framerates as if they're revolutionary features. another UWP abomination in the making

i'm not sure if allowing scripts to execute in parallel, rather than sequentially is an amd thing or nv thing. Any clarity on that?

Big GOW fan

Already pre ordered the 2gb Xbox one S Gears limited edition which will come with the digital download/cross play Gears 4 game

Will play on PC - strong logic yes, the console looks cool and will make a good 4k Bluray player biggrin.gif

Async or not all i'm hoping for is that I can play in 4k @ 60fps with my 1080. Mix of High/ultra settings. one time!

It says "it'll leverage hardware....." but i'm not convinced. They'll probably ignore gcn 1.0 anyway so no joy for me biggrin.gif

Why would that be? To make a game jaw dropping you need talented artists and Gears of War 4 doesn't look spectacular at all. DX12 won't change that.

I'm with you on this, just the basic design of the main characters doesn't impress atm; Emo goth girl with hair impractical for her role ... check. Young white american leader looking too "clean" for his role ... check .. heh tongue.gif

I think it's going to be another HALO, I loved the bungee games. Funnily I loved the non-master chief more ( Although they were all great games ) but Halo 4+ ? HA!
I loved playing through all the GoW games but with the latest debarcle in doing games exlusive to UWP, Xbox doesn't get exclusives and everything gets locked bechind the great Microsoft DX12, W10, UWP Iron curtain. I'm not stupid enough to buy into that trainwreak.

Give us Marcus and the gang !!! (We love you bender !!!!!! )thumb.gif

Still, shouldn't be buying into this crap on the PC anyway. We didn't get a proper "Ultimate collection" but the Xbox did, even though they released both. dispite it being a rubbish remaster. Yet here we are chomping at the bit to get our hands on the latest car-crash. Definitly reserving judgement until release but haven't got a good thought as to why I should get an Xbox or UWP for PC.
