I went from a 4790k at 5GHz to a 6700K at 4.6 to 4.8 to the Current 6800K at 4.5. You will be happy with either really but the 6700k is more than enough CPU for gaming. It really just comes down to what you wanna do. If you have some money to burn, the 6 core and X99 boards are a lot of fun to play with. Are they necessary? Nope.
