I have 3.5gb cards.....and while the last 512mb's aren't magic...they are usable.

A little video I made late last night. I believe I was at 4k with high settings. As you can see....it starts off over the 3.5gb of Vram.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QVtGI_yQlM

EDIT: It never drops down below the 3.5gb actually.

Sorry...

EDIT II: Batman:Arkham Knight Benchmark @1440p. Usage actually goes over 4.0gb.

That extra 0.5 from 3 helps. Every bit helps.

Maybe....I guess that it why everyone is up in arms over this 3gb card(1060).

Note: Just two cards... biggrin.gif

EDIT: I really think it's either the drivers being optimized...or the game. I remember when the 3.5gb fiasco started. I did test it...and it was miserable. The Division seems to build up the Vram, then it drops before hitting the wall...then builds up again. The game actually plays and looks great. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm glad it was free. thumb.gif

Some Chinese review, card looks good.
TPU should have their review up in a couple of days as well.

7fps drop (37 to 30 fps) on Ashes at 1080p

10fps drop (81 to 71fps) on RoTR at 1080p

8fps drop (42 to 34fps) on Crysis 3 at 1080p

5fps drop (100fps to 95fps) on GTA V at 1080p

I believe the other game was project cars and the division, both getting 2fps drops at 1080p

Please keep in mind, the 3gb they tested is AIB one, and is clocked higher out of the box.

So regardless of the 3gb isn't enough discussion, Nvidia is really doing shady marketing by calling this a 1060. Even considering all those games (including the two at 2fps) the average frame drop is 6fps. Factor in this reviewed card is a faster version of it and you have a card a good deal slower compared to a card simply labeled as having more vram. If you don't count the two smaller difference games (2 out of 6) and only the four heavier hitting ones you have an average drop of 8 fps on a card clocked higher.

Also I'm still on a GTX 780 btw. Obviously it's showing its age but the whole "VRAM is everything" mentality is ridiculous. Might as well buy a cheap 780 6GB or even a cheap 770 4GB because it's a better buy apparently lol

Like someone else said, some people need to play within their means. I would never tell a new gamer that they shouldn't get card at X resolution unless they can use 4x SSAA without frames dropping because that's unrealistic. GTA V is probably the most taxing game I have since I mostly have older games (maybe 2k16? Lol) but I turn down the obvious stuff. Keep the MSAA down if I can, shadows don't need to be real life shadows and maybe some of the water detail or something.

It's interesting how you think you can manage to put forth the argument that "the whole "VRAM is everything" mentality is ridiculous" while admitting in that very same sentence that your GTX 780 is showing its age.

Yes, yes, it is showing its age, and there is another thing that it is showing: that it is a performance tier below the GTX 1060 and thus your conflation is wrong:

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/26.html

So, thanks for playing the faux GTX 1060 sales pitch, you didn't win any prize this time, please trying again tomorrow.

This card should be called the 1050 Ti.

Those fps drops in Ashes (18% slower), RoTR (12% slower) and Crysis 3 (19% slower), all at 1080p are quite a bit more than the 5% they said, not to mention it's an AIB card.

There will always be the heroes who will buy this card despite being a 3 GB card in 2016 just because Nvidia currently owns the fastest halo product and because their mentality is still stuck in 2005 thinking AMD drivers are garbage.

It did beat both AMD cards at everything other than Ashes or is that not important?.
Why insist on judging this card by comparing it to 6GB 1060 which is 60eur more expensive? Although i agree that it should have been called 1050ti (something similar to 650tiB during kepler era) but it is what it is.
