[Techreport] Nvidia makes its GTX 1060 3GB card official - Page 33

Feels like this thread is beating a dead horse.

This card shouldn't have the 1060 3g moniker. I think everyone here thinks since this is a cut-down version of the 1060 it should be labeled in a way as to not confuse the average buyer. Of course, a lot of us aren't average buyers.

I think most of us also agree, that unless you are on a tight budget, and just love nVidia products, it's a no buy.

The TDP(from all vendors) can been thrown out the window as far as I'm concerned. I will concede that nVidia does seem to have the better power efficiency when compared to AMD.

Example: GTX 970 TDP of 145w. That is laughable in my opinion.
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-970/specifications

Proof:
The stock bios has a TDP of 250w. Under load running Time Spy I see a max of 93.2%. So it's really consuming (250x93.2%)=233w.

I just ran Valley on one of my OC'd 970's(1506/8000@1.225v), and the max wattage was 187w. I'll play a few round of BF4 later and see what the max wattage is, if anyone is interested. I know in SLI...both cards were normally over 200w@1080p(Ultra Settings).

I'm not loyal to either camp. nVidia screwed us unaware buyers of the GTX970....and it seems like their deceptive practices are leaking over into the naming scheme.

That's just my two cents.....while I'm sure some will disagree....I'm not going to lose sleep over it. We are all welcome to our own opinions. thumb.gif

I was not the only one calling DE:MD a bad console port, its all over the net. the game is just wasteful with both GPU and VRAM ressources. Even on powerful PCs you have to tune down settings. So many people are reproting bugs and frame drops no matter the card. The game is a bad example for how GPUs should be compared, but lucky for some it fits in their agenda. It's more sad how many people here can not get into any argument and immediately go on with their point of view.

The horsepower is there at 1080p but the vram isn't. A rx470 beating it on Tomb Raider, one of the games Nvidia has a good lead in. 3gb is just not a good buy. 20fps loss to 1060 6gb and 10fps loss to rx470. Stuttering as well.

What's the point of a card with this horsepower when the textures end up like mud to avoid stuttering and major performance dips?

Case closed.

Holy heck I didn't know GTX 1060 3 GB has lower core and tmu counts than the 6 GB one. eek.gif

Anyway, latest DX11 games are using good amount of VRAM.
4.5+ GB for 1080p only.

Maybe I'm confused but looking at the charts for the 1080p VHQ settings, I'm not seeing what these guys are seeing.

The 780 Ti SLI puts out almost the same numbers as a 1070.

If the 3gb of the 780 was constricting things that much, why doesn't it have a much lower minimum fps like would be happening if the frame buffer was maxed?

None of the 3gb cards from either camp have really poor minimum fps really.

Maybe it's because they record with fraps and it doesn't pick up the low spikes?

As I mentioned earlier, it is not wise to buy a 3gb card anymore, the card is obsolete before it is out.

Stuttering is worse than low frames too

6gb is even below my standards as consoles have 8gb, so we will need at least 8gb due to optimizations etc we may even need more

Deus X uses nearly 4GB of video RAM (on the high settings) and it uses nearly 7gb of system memory. Think it's the most I've ever seen , that or tomb raider

There are two higher settings also , very high and ultra. Can only imagine
