I have a related question. My build is on an ASUS X99-Deluxe II. Like the Asus ROG Strix X99, its rated to 3333 so I bought G.Skill Trident Z [F4-3333C16Q-32GTZB]. I figured if the MOBO is rated for that, I might as well spring for RAM that is rated for 3333. I have played around with overclocking the 5820K and have gotten 4.3GHz stable but when I enable XMP and set it for 3200 I have been getting BSODs. This is with CPU and DRAM voltages set on auto or using 5-Way. I think I can get it stable if I do everything manually so I am looking for advice on CPU voltage, Strap, and DRAM voltage and timings. My question is, is my logic flawed and did I waste my $ buying a kit rated for 3333? Also, any advice on OC settings is appreciated.
As for your question, I agree that going with a 4-stick kit is the best way to go to minimize stress on the IMC. The other weird thing is with WIN10 Pro installed and idling, I have gotten low memory warnings from Windows several times. I do have a fair amount of stuff in the task bar running but when I look at my RAM utilization, it is not high at all, so I don't understand why I would ever get a low memory warning with 32GB of RAM. Any ideas?
Good luck with your build and thanks !
